In doing the front bushing, the passenger side drive shaft popped off. Bye bye oil!
I have no idea how much I lost, so will need to change it.
Is this the correct gearbox oil - https://www.halfords.ie/motoring/engine ... 51824.html
Where is the oil level plug on the gearbox? Or does anyone know how much oil I'd need to replace from draining out at the drive shaft?

Re: gear box oil c5 x7
do i just take the cap off the breather and pour the oil down it (via a hose/funnel)?
over 2l came out despite being the gearbox with fins, guessing it was filled wrong

Re: gear box oil c5 x7
Hi,
As I'm sure you already know, remove the air filter box to expose the gearbox breather and use a suitable funnel that is long enough to reach and will remain in place, once the breather is removed while you pour. There are far worse jobs than this one.
Not sure of the Halfords oil that you have selected, but Total traxium 8, 75w/80 GL 4 is recommended (used to be Total BV). I think Total and PSA or whatever they call themselves now would be the original oil, as advised by Steve Walsh.
Maybe if you provide your vin to the forum you can be sure of the quantity of oil for your box given how much came out.
Hope that helps
Andy.

If it can happen it will.

Re: gear box oil c5 x7
thanks for the help. is filling it via the reverse switch no longer an option? or is it avoided cause you can break the reverse switch trying to remove it? I used to fill the xantia via the reverse switch.

Same here Dave... Maybe in the C5 the breather is easier and more accessible... I recall you needed a deep 22mm socket for the reverse sensor and there may not be room to accommodate this easily perhaps?

Re: gear box oil c5 x7
I did it through the breather, not brave enough to remove the switch in case it breaks.
Took ages to fill, sore arms afterwards.
