Puretech 1.2 Issues

Unread post by PC2CV »

Hi there
I see a Peugeot 208 rolland garros on copart and i am tempted. Mainly because its got heated leather seats in a small city car, it is giving off Clio Initiale vibes, and i have a young cousin after a car to start driving in
But it has the 1.2 non turbo puretech engine.

This is the link:
https://www.copart.co.uk/lot/71568073/c ... nd-belfast

Its an engine i would be interested to work on, my mate had a C4 1.2 turbo last year and i was going to change the belt on it but other things got in the way and he sold the car as it was.

This 208 has 67k and is a 2014 so ripe for a belt change.

I know well enough the main things about these engines, the belt needs done, clean out the oil pickup gauze and use the correct oil.

But what other issues do they commonly have, i have hard talk of a ticking sound that just cant be fixed, is there any issues with them using too much oil or with carbon buildup due to how the fuel is delivered?

If they are serviced and attention paid to the belt are they any good? I normally stick with the 8 valve 1.6 hdi as they seem a hardy wee engine capable of serious mileages but intrigued about the puretechs.

I don't know much about the 1.2, but it looks like a good little project. Nice spec.

I think the cam belt service interval on the Puretech engines is more frequent than the usual 10 years or over 100k miles you might be used to on the hdi engines. They run in oil and can fail sooner than expected so it may well have been changed a couple of times already.

It depends on the exact EB2 engine, but if this is as I suspect the HMZ (EB2 60KW Injection) engine, then it is 62k miles for the timing belt or 6 years, then after the modified belt is replaced that goes back up to 124k / 12 years.

It's difficult to be sure from the photos but I'd see if a good paintless dent removal man could sort a lot of that panel damage out.
