Relay 2.2 Blue HDI Timing Belt

Hi,

I wonder if anyone has some info regarding timing belts?

I'm looking to buy a new relay van and want to avoid (like the plague) wet timing belts, or timing belts in oil.

I'm getting conflicting advice so I wonder if anyone knows here.

The dealer says it has a timing chain (so, could be a wet belt and they don't know)

Autodata's timing belt info says it has a belt. But, looking at the pics is not definitive as wet belts and dry belts look the same.

The engine is a 2.2 Blue HDI 140ps the van is a '23 model.

Your thoughts would be most welcome.

It would appear this is an old van, 1st used circa 2006, but with updates. As far as I can tell, it uses a belt and a chain. The crank drives the belt, the belt drives one cam pulley and inside the chain links both cams.

My wife's 1.6 hdi has the same set up and with regular servicing (ignore the 32k miles interval, rather do it at 12/15 and use the best oil) it was up to almost 100k with no chain issues. I did replace it last year, but only because we were doing an engine out job (clutch & leaking crank seal, I chose to change the glow plugs, one snapped so it was head off time....). But I would also add she uses BP Ultimate diesel and it has miraculously kept the EGR amazingly soot free.

However, someone may come along and prove me wrong, but a quick search of timing belt kit for this engine only showed a dry belt....

There are a number of 2.2 engines, would need the VIN to confirm exactly, but the 140 engine appears, as Doo says, to be a dry belt with a cam chain to drive the second camshaft. Other 2.2 variants have different timing gear, so only the VIN will confirm for sure.
