I had an amber engine warning light come on saying "check engine" .. "check adblue system" .. "see handbook"
I tried topping up the Adblue but it was quite full already; I was only able to add 1L maximum.
The next day i had a countdown also with the original message, saying "cannot restart 450km"
I visited a Citroen garage in France that could not work on it, but did clear all the fault codes with their diagnostic reader, free of charge. The warning light and message were both gone for 3 days.
Now the amber engine warning light has returned with the same message: "check engine" .. "check adblue system" .. "see handbook"
Is the vehicle telling me it is detecting a fault in the adblue system? I have never seen an Adblue light or level warning as I have only owned the van for 2 months ~3000km. Van has done 197,000km. It is the DW10FUD engine, 2019 February model with VIN number: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

Hi,
The commonest issue as you describe it is AdBlue Crystallisation.
What happens is that crystals form in the AdBlue tank (and other areas) which can form around the float in the AdBlue tank. This stops it working, thus putting on your warning lamp and starting the "Countdown".
Be warned if the countdown reaches 0 you will no longer be able to start your vehicle.
Most of the time these crystals can't be cleaned out manually as the tanks are sealed, so are a throw away item, but they are expensive.
The way I solve this issue is with an inexpensive chemical from Forte called Exhaust Crystal Remover. Just tip it in and the crystals melt back into solution, end of problem. This assumes no mechanical issue of course.
Just search on the internet for the above company. They sell in France so you may find a supplier locally, if not then you may be able to wait until you return to the UK where there are loads of garages that supply this product.
Good Luck

Thanks for the reply. I had seen mention of the crystals but I didn't know this was the most common cause.
I am now in the UK so can easily buy Forte products. I see they have "Forte AdBlue Tank Exhaust Crystal Preventer - 150ml" is that the correct one to help remove the already formed crystals? I couldn't find "Exhaust Crystal Remover".

Hi,
Opps, yes. That would be the one. The 150ml treats up to a 20 ltr tank. There's no need to add 2 for luck! One will work if it's going to.

Great, thank you. For £11 it is well worth trying!joeblack wrote: 14 Dec 2023, 22:35 Hi,

Re: Citroen Jumper with "check engine" and "check adblue system"
I used a fault code scanner to find that my codes are: P20EE and P2BAD. Is it possible to read into these fault codes to find the specific problem?
With the scanner, a KINGBOLEN K7, I am able to clear these fault codes, which has removed the amber engine warning light from showing up on the dash, for now... Hopefully this has bought me some time to drive back to Portugal where I can have the van looked at by a Citroen garage, potentially under warranty.
The crystal remover solution should arrive today or tomorrow, so I will be trying that then...
