Interesting video , I always like listening to people who genuinely know what they are talking about! :)

I gave that a viewing the other day, well l familiar with Ewan McTurk, and good coverage of the subject. Getting things out of R&D and into scale production is dominated by the Chinese big two, CATL and BYD both of which are right there with sodium-ion which seems to be the next tech to make it into serious production starting with battery packs which have a mix of sodium ion/ lithium ion cells. I liked Ewan's piece on solid state batteries and the most efficient ceramic "electrolyte" being a bit fragile and possible not coping with the cobbles of Dundee :-D , and polymer electrolytes expanding and contracting in the solid state cell. I'm sure all the engineering difficulties will be overcome and solid state batteries will make it to production at scale.

I watched a bit as I thought it was Dianna Cowern (Physics Girl) who has been bedbound with long Covid and unable to do anything for herself. Been over a year now and I was hoping she was back.

Presenter is a bit intense, may have another look later.

Interesting video, probably forgot most of it now, well it was over 6 hours ago that I watched it. 😒
But I agree, with both, you do not need 1000 miles of range, sub 300 miles is enough providing you can fast charging to 80%(ish).
I quite like the Imogen, apart from the squeaky voice, she is very knowledgeable, apparently she trained as an aerodynamics engineer at Jaguar Landrover

I agree but it seems to be the way with an awful lot of presenters, I keep saying "Sit on your hands for goodness sake." :)

The main reason I don't watch TV news, or anything else, can't stand the presenters.

The main reason I don't watch Youtube videos

Needless to say, I've not watched that one. I only opened the topic in the hope there might be an interesting text-based discussion rather than yet another bloody Youtube video

You don't have to watch that particular video Jim, it is principally a chap explaining battery technologies and you could easily put it on and just listen as you would to a Radio 4 programme!! :-D

Managed four minutes of it up to now, that includes a skipped ad.
Can't be doing with voices either, never listen to radio and couldn't possibly listen to an audiobook.
Accidentally bought one about six years ago and will never listen to it.

Here's the Falcon 3 sentence nutshell without having to listen to or watch the video.
1 The Li-ion Battery Chemistry dominating in 2023 is now Lithium Iron Phosphate, safer/cheaper and greater longevity in spite of being less energy dense than Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt.

2 The next chemistry will be Sodium-ion, and both BYD and CATL have developed this to ready to go production at scale, and will be used in mass produced cars in mixed Na-ion/Li-ion packs.

3 Solid state has been much talked about replacing liquid electrolyte fluids with ceramic/polymer in a solid state cell, but no-one has developed it to ready to go production at any significant scale yet.

I'm pleased to say, Neil, that you've got the job. 8-) I'll expect a 3 sentence appraisal of all future EV related Youtube videos from you - both those that only say good things and those that only say bad things about them. You won't have to worry too much about watching the well balanced videos as they are few and far between.

Here's a one liner balanced script for you bobins:

I got as far as the bit about incendiary batteries and was very skeptical in view of the many conflagrations of BEVs.
