Depollution fault? C5 2)ltr Hdi 2006

Unread post by boristhespie »

EDIT: FAULT CODES P1598
P2084

Engine warning light no longer on. Put in DPF cleaner and ran it as below. Not reappeared. But car doesn't sound right. There is a hum. Thing is I sounds like loud road hum. Also something doesn't feel right .

Anyway bewlo was initka post.

Okay, so just when I said I wanted to keep my car going I got in it tonight to go shopping and it didn't sound right. I drove 16 miles on dual carriage way and engine light came on halfway through and "depolution fault" came up. The noise initially was like driving when needing to change gear up. But it felt like separate noise. The engine sounded fine but there's a hum. Engine had response but something didnt feel right.

Anyway did what I always do with depollution fault and put in some Carluke DPF Cleaner and wellied it for about 25 miles at 70mph. Engine light stayed on and feel of car still sin't quite right. Just intuition really.

Other than a clogged dpf, which I assume wouldn't have allowed me to drive at 70mph without issue, what else or could be causing a depollution fault?

Note the car wouldn't start a couple times 2 weeks back. Which I thought was battery.

A Depollution system fault is a catch all with many many possible causes.
You'll be p**sing in the wind unless you get the codes read. When you get some codes, post them here and we'll advise where to start.

The DPF won't last forever. There are particles of Cerine and engine debris that clog the filter along with the ash that can't be burned off. But as Mike has said, you really need the fault codes read and put up here with the VIN.

EDIT: FAULT CODES P1598
P2084

Engine light went iff after run with DPF cleaner. Not come on again.

Still another noise as well as engine. Like loud road hum. But not aure if engine. Car itself feels different and no right. Hard to explain. Not free.

Tried diagnostic tool. Not aure what my engine model number is so clicked on SID803A because that rings a bell and got info on the above.

P1598 LOCAL Cooling circuit bypass electro valve. Short circuit between two wires or short circuit to positive PERMANENT

P2084 LOCAL Catalytic Convertor downstream temperature signal incorrect. Incorrect value received. Intermittent.

Ok, so there's nothing more on the P1598 code -
Fault Code: P2084
Description of Fault: Catalytic converter downstream temperature signal: Coherence in the evolution of the temperature. The increase in the temperature is less than or more than 15°C every 100 ms for 1,5 seconds.
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Ignition on
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Replacement value: 350 °C.
  • Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message: Warning lamp MIL
Symptoms:
  • Lack of power
Suspect Areas:
  • Catalytic converter downstream temperature sensor
  • Electrical harness
  • Connector

Would that fault cause a increased tone or damage if driven?

To be fair there doesn't seem to be a loss of power. It does now sound like top of gear needing to up change. That kind of higher pitch.

Also what would the likely impact of this be.

Done full check using diagnostic rool.

Got some codes.

Radio (!)
U3905 auxiliary audio inputs No 1

No idea what that is. I never knew I had inputs. I do have CD multichanger (Exclusive) but that comes up as ok.

Steering wheel switching module (Hdc)
B1C85 Off the lighting Stalk - Coherence.?

Parking Assistance (this has never worked, I assume bad module)
U3BC2 Outer Front RH seonsor (can I take it this is the sensor identified and I could just replace it?)

Parking Assistance
C1FB Please refer to vehicle maintenance manual.

I tested everything even tho I dont know what they are. Everything cameback ok. Looked at pollution system nd for this non mechanic it said it was all ok. So???

Says there is significant mileage left on system before replacement.

Soot level okay. I may force regen on next drive. Dunno if I should. But...

Wonder what the issue is with the car.

Ok so can't help you with any of these codes as they are not PSA fault codes!

None of these are coming up against your car. That's why it's always better to use a proprietary diagnostic kit like a Lexia.

You don't have an AUX port on this vehicle as you just have the basic RD4 system with mono tuner, so no AUX ports that you would get with an RT3 4 of this year, so not surprised that fault code reader is bringing up gibberish.

Okay, so by way of demonstrating my ineptness at mechanics the garage today said one of my front bearings is buggered. I guess the engine light was a coincidence. I do have a short circuit according to the computer but everything else pollution system wise was ok when I checked it. It was just that the light came on the second I said "there's something wrong with this car". But give me my due when I explained it to them I said I thought it was more mechanical as in wheels than engine. As Engine sounds and pulls okay. Anyway in for new bearing thursday and hope it aint too expensive.
