Broken tubby? Easy fix, ish.

Post by markallinson »

I bought my first Citroen last year at auction, it was cheap, unfortunately whenit came to the drive home the turbo wasn't working! After putting up with a dog slow car for a while I decided to buy a new tubby, found one on Ebay. Before fitting it I thought I would just check if there was any kind of obstruction in the intake side as there was no air filter fitted!
Guess what, a 30mm long piece of steel pipe had found its way to the tubby! Managed to remove the offending item and the turbo kicked into life yippee!
Anyone elso had obstructions in their turbo?
What a squeeze to get to!

That 30mm piece of steel pipe would probably be an insert to stop the pressurised pipes collapsing when you tighten the hose clips on them.
I had to hammer one back into place on my '95 Xantia because it seemed to be going places...

The piece of pipe was about 15mm in diameter and as far as I can tell should have never been near the car. I think some tw@t had dropped it in while the intercooler was off for whatever reason.
Now what do I do with the new turbo I bought to replace the "broken" one with?
Wonder if I could have it modified to provide more boost... hmmm...
