Xsara Tailgate C/Locking not working

Hi All, Had a problem recently on my Xsara Estate. Tailgate Central Locking started to get intermittent, eventually traced to a broken "brown" wire in the rubber boot between body/tailgate. It didn't appear to be that taut to have broken but soldered an extra 4" into the lead, and as we all know 4" makes all the difference. Seem to recall this was a Volvo estate problem from years ago.

I've had this problem too, also the OSF door speaker packed in, turned out to be a broken wire also. Is this a common problem?
