Citroën C5 X7 rear spheres gone. Can I still drive it?

Post by Sebastian Tombs »

My Citroën C5 X7 needs at least its rear saucers replaced. The ride now is rock hard. The height is still fine.
I knew this in spring, and booked it in to be done at my local dealer. Unfortunately Citroën don't appear to have any in all of France and the car is still waiting for the job to be done.

I need to take the car to the UK and back in the new year, loaded with stuff (about 2000 miles in total). Apart from the obvious lack of ride comfort, will this cause any problems? Will it break something?

Secondly, if Citroën cannot get any more X7 saucers, then are we still of the opinion that pattern ones are crap, or should I just get those instead?

In short, I wouldn't drive it with flat spheres. Aftermarket (pattern) spheres will be better than what you've got, but you would need to be certain that they are the correct ones for your car.

I have used IFHS brand spheres on a Xantia and an XM, and found them excellent.

Just of interest, how many miles/kilometers has your car done?

Just been to look. It's done 153659km, so 95479 miles

Citroën never managed to come up with any proper saucers, so I had to go with the pattern offering. They were fitted a couple of days ago and now the ride is just wonderful.

Hopefully they will last a bit longer than a couple of years.
