Hello everyone,

I am contacting you from Germany and hope that the translation is reasonably functional.

My clutch pedal on the C5II HDI keeps getting stuck at the bottom. After pulling it up, it works normally, makes no noise or other abnormalities.

The independent garage first changed the slave cylinder and then the master cylinder and then lubricated the pedal in some kind of guide or similar - with little or no success, perhaps it gets stuck a little less often now. The problem rarely occurs in the first few minutes after starting.

Now the garage wants to change the complete clutch, approx. 1000 - 1200€. The car is from 2006, 185,000km and has a few small quirks. I'm not sure whether it's worth it.

However, when I searched the internet, I only found the clutch slave system as a possible cause, and two experienced mechanics also commented on this. Could be a leak, air in the system, or a defective new part....

I haven't come across a complete clutch replacement as a solution, but I'm not an expert. What do you think?

I cannot help much, but one thing to check is if there is a clutch assist spring on the pedal. As the clutch is pressed, this would progrssively add to the foot pressure. If the wrong spring has been fitted, or has been hooked on the wrong point, it could interfere with correct operation. See diagram, spring shown red (it is a tension spring).
