C3 Picasso: Urea Injector Overworking...

Unread post by CitroJim »

Yesterday I took Polly, my 1.6 BlueHDi C3 Picasso in for a 48,000 mile main-dealer service. The only reason was to preserve the warranty on it. Otherwise I'd have done it myself.

During the 'Health Check' that was done as part of the service, an issue with the Urea Injector was flagged. It's allegedly overworking :-k :surprised:

It seems this was determined simply and only by these stains on an exhaust clamp. They even took this photo for me...

According to the dealer, it could be as simple as a leaky exhaust clamp or a stuck-open urea injector...

Given she runs beautifully, there's no steam, smell, smoke or urea crystals around a spotlessly clean tailpipe and that I've never had to top-up the Adblue tank in all the time I've owned her, it all seems a bit spurious and prima-facie, a non-issue. I'd have thought if the injector was stuck open there would be plenty of symptoms, not least a stink and a thirst for Adblue...

No fault codes allegedly...

They're keen to relieve me of almost £500 to investigate/resolve.

Thoughts?

Give it a wipe, check the clamp for tightness and monitor the situation.

That's what I'll do Paul, and in doing so deprive their Christmas box of a few quid!

I’d ignore it, if there was a big issue the NOx sensor would likely have picked up on it.
Its easy enough to take the injector out & have a look. Diagbox can run a test on it when its out of the exhaust to check the spray pattern & delivery amount if you really wanted to check it further. You basically just stick the injector in a measuring jar & it will tell you at the end how many ML should be in it.
