I've had a bit of a search on the forum for this issue, so if I've missed a discussion, please feel free to point me in the right direction.
I have a 5008 2017 model, which has the issue-prone pop-up screen. Its been a problem for a bit, but finally, the whole audio unit died (cd played clicking every 30 seconds). I discussed it with the authorised repairer, who indicated a four-month wait for a replacement unit (the joys of living in Australia). The recommendation was to go for an after-market replacement. Ultimately, the unit was replaced by an Alpine radio with Apple Play and Android Auto—all good and working. But the engine light is always on due to the BSI registering a fault with its comms to the radio unit.
So apart from being annoyed with the dealer who should have known better, I've got a problem as I cannot be sure if this is a radio issue or something more serious (without diagnostic equipment). Is there any way to get the BSI to accept the aftermarket radio? I really don't want to have to rip it out and pay another $4k for a replacement unit.

You need to get a proper scan, BSI radio fault shouldn't put the engine light on, but then again you never know...

I agree with Richard, the EML should not be put on for this issue alone. There's likely something else going and a scan with Diagbox is really needed.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

Agree with above, can’t imagine its should put the EML on. Will almost certainly log a communication fauls between the radio & what ever else is on the same network. On slightly older systems the fault would be logged but if it bothered you the BSI could be told you no longer have a radio & the codes would clear.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep digging - I have had an ongoing discussion with the repairer on the alternator (I think there is a problem - the computer says no (cough!)).
I like the idea of telling the BSI we no longer have the radio. Would eliminate any discussion. I'll look into it.
