My CP1 pump has developed the dreaded leak on startup which seals itself after about a minute. I've got the seal kit ready for a rebuild but before I remove the pump, I was wondering if there's a way to pin the fuel pump sprocket in place so the pump can be !carefully! removed without disturbing the timing belt.
I've got an 8v 2.0 HDI (RHZ). Having looked around I can see some engines/manufacturer's have ways to screw and pin fuel pump sprockets in place. Obvs the single pump timing pin won't be sufficient to prevent it moving once the spindle is out. I'm trying to get as prepared as possible and not going to be in a very populated place when I remove the pump so if I need certain size pins/screws I want to get them all before I start.

It's a while since I did the belt on my 306 HDi but I don't recall it being a massive trial. Is the leak likely to have let any diesel get on the belt itself? If it is possible, I'd bite the bullet and change it regardless. Option to leave the water pump alone, would then make it only £20 or so extra on the total (and time if course)

On the old XUD's you could leave the pulley in place & remove the pump but i dont believe you can on HDi.
Dont mess about, change the timing belt whilst your doing pump.

I put a new belt and WP on about 4 months ago lol I just can't remember if there were extra pinning points specifically for keeping the fuel sprocket in place for pump to be removed.
Sounds like belt will be coming off anyway. I'm hoping there's no diesel contamination as the diesel is leaking from the panel on one of the pistons (typical of this kind of failure) but I'll be checking all the same.

Just a quick update, the pump had 2 of the 3 pistons with worn o rings. One was particularly frayed. I was surprised by how much surface rust was between the pump and piston panels but it's very fine and easily cleaned with a Stanley blade swipe. Belt was clean and is now back on and started first time with no obvious leaks. Will need to warm it up now to make sure I've tensioned it right. Last time a garage did it, it was too tight and sounded like an electric motor so ended up slackening it myself rather than drive it back to them.
