As anyone who's read any of my previous threads will know, I have a problematical boxer.
A discussion last night with my son led on to the subject of the ecu,
Quick background info
Van threw up a fault code for the fifth injector, replaced this (and coded it) and found that 1> the metal clip had shorted onto the +ve wire to the injector, and 2> the ground wire had melted all the way back to the earth point behind the headlight.
So after getting the dpf cleaned, replaced pressure and temperature sensors, (the egr was replaced previously) I continue to have the premature regeneration.
I can fool it into 60/70 miles of normal running by telling it that the dpf has been replaced, but that is all getting a bit boring
Replacing the incorrect throttle peddle has made no difference
So....
Latest thoughts on the subject are, was the ecm damaged when the fifth injector shorted out? There's a relay but doesn't appear to be a fuse for this, (or if there is it hadn't blown)
And if so..
Lots of used ecus on ebay, obviously condition unknown, but more than likely removed from accident damaged vans.
Not a straight swap I grant, keys and immobilser will need to be coded?
Companies offering to clone the existing, but will it clone any faults that are in there?
Any advice or recommendations appreciated
