Can't you get the old one recond'd? probably cheaper and there should be loads of people in the local yellow pages.

The cheapest alternative I've found is to get one out of a crashed car. The fact that the car crashed suggests that it was running at the time of its demise, you will also invariably get the ancillaries such as alternator which come in handy later. The job will also be done much quicker as the engine will be ready to fit straight away.
Try either local breakers or others such as A5 salvage, north of Dunstable, Edwards near to Billericay www.edwardsandson.co.uk or the Exchange and Mart for specialist Citroen breakers.

Apologies for dragging up an old post but...
The Engines from Saxo's will fit..go for the VTR/S[:D] & you'll need to replace the hubs all around & the fuel tank etc if your going from carb to injection.

The answer about re-con engines that the time they will last is dependant on the quality of the work done. A good job will last a very long time - comparable with new.
Whats hapopened to yours? If its seriously overheated it may not be worth doing.
