Webasto bypass?

Post by Oddball Matt »

Is there a wiring diagram somewhere on this forum where I need to fit a switch to bypass the Webasto? I have no idea what burner this car has, some sort of a thermo top? but I know it is equipped with a WebControl 2 SMS based control module. Even when the engine is warm and the cabin nice and toasty the heater STILL turns itself on on a regular basis puffing out foul smelling exhaust clouds I`m getting on my face hanging out the window delivering mail, and IMO all it is achieving with this is premature wear and wasting fuel. Sorry if this is a well worn topic with a gazillion new threads I just couldn`t find any, not that I looked that hard I must admit...

The car is a 2008 Xsara Picasso 1.6 diesel, don`t know the engine type more spesificly if that matters I`ll look it up

hi Matt, I am installing one!

Cant you just unplug the 2 plugs to it? either one will stop the unit working. there may be a fuse for it somewhere otherwise. Is it an aftermarket install? seems like an unusual thing for a Xara.

John

edit, just seen your in Finland.

I want it to work in the morning as a pre-heater since it has the phone control option but I don't see why it is still running when everything is nice and hot so I'd rather not be yanking any plugs. Let it do it's magic then flip the switch so it'll stay cold for the rest of the day then when I get back home flip it on again for the next morning. I have no idea whether it's a factory fit or an aftermarket as I got the impression the guy I bought the car from didn't even know about the telecontrol module since he never mentioned it.

ahh ok Matt, makes sense.. was watching youtube last night, and a chap in Finland/Sweden was in a campervan with -31C ! I dont know what to suggest really.. You could fit an inline switch, an override, so the heater cant come on during the day, but would still work in the morning. On most Thermo's this could work via pin 2 on the 8 pin plug at the unit (or whereever that wire comes up to). There is bound to be amore elegant fix, but i dont know enough about a 'proper' install :(

Yea the worst I`ve seen where I live in, which is fairly south, was -35c, but not in the recent years. I am an electronics tech by training but never worked as one, and it`s been almost two decades since school so it`s not in the recent memory, plus I`ve had the `rona this week so thoughts aren`t exactly clear ATM, if I could find a wiring diagram of the system I could pretty quickly determine where the pilot power comes from (most likely the ignition barrel but has it just been stolen from there or is there a dedicated plug for this, is it branched off the ECU etc...). Best case scenario is if I can disable the startup fireup altogether and ONLY control it via SMS.

I was in Borås, Sweden, in the seventies. The coldest I saw there was -38℃. It doesn't seem to get that cold any more.
All the firms cars had Eberspächer heaters.

German cars tend to have Ebers, the rest is mostly webasto. Had an Eber in my MAN GTA truck back when I was still doing lorry stuff. Some longhauler trucks have Mikuni air heaters that only warm up the cabin for sleeping.
