That little potentiometer device that sit on the accelerator pedal?

- would be a sensor for the ECU, detecting your engine power demands via the pedal, i.e. accelerating/decelerating, mainly to control the injection pump fuelling.
Must be an XM diesel talking here ?

It will more than likely be for the Hydractive suspension, telling the suspension ECU what the accelerator is doing in order to switch from soft to firm etc.
Anders, its a Xantia V6.

Take A look on this site http://pepon1.free.fr/ ,lots of schematics/info about XM (its shares some engines with the xantia)

Sorry Anders, yes it's the V6.

That makes sense as there was one on my old VSX too so I reckoned it couldn't be to do with the gearbox, and the engine has its own TPS.

I thought it was something to do with the glow plugs (as they cut off when the throttle is depressed a certian amount for a particlar length of time), but if it's on a V6 as well, my guess is the HA2 suspension (my TD VSX has one; little red one?).
