Applications for purflux LS304?

Post by Chris Peddie »

Hello all,
Not had any Xantia related problems for ages [8D] touching wood etc. but now have a filter query!
As the title implies, I've a spare LS304 oil filter, supplied incorrectly. Anyone know what it's really meant to go on? I was thinking of using it on an ordinary XUD as I presume it's intended for an HDI, thus this will be fine.
Thanks,
Chris

HI Chris,
- a search on :
http://www.purflux.com/pcatuk.html
reveals that type LS304 are obsolete and replaced by type LS923, which in turn fits on Xantia 2.0 HDI.
So you were right, it goes on 2.0 HDI engines.

The LS923 is in fact identical (looking) to the XUD's filter LS867B. Apparently the 923 was developed for the longer maintenance periods allowed on HDI's. So I guess it's OK for earlier diesels.

You're right John.
Quite a few types are interchangeable, because of the same thread size and oil seal face size/shape. Main differences are the filter capacities and can design.
Even the exact same engine types uses different filter types according to available space in the engine bay of various models.

Thanks Anders, John.
It never occurred to me that it might be obselete - no wonder I couldn't find any info, that, and not looking in the right place!!
It'll go on at the next oil change then!
Cheers,
Chris
