DPF & EOYLS Delete Query

Post by SteveH1908 »

Hi, my Xsara Picasso 1.6 HDi (110 bhp) has a slightly leaking eoyls tank. It periodically can drop a very small amount on my drive (not regularly, perhaps once a month) - it seems impossible to remove with whatever solution I use and there is not a tremendous amount of eoyls left in the tank by the looks of it. I have been told I really need a new eoyls tank, which with the new eoyls solution + labour is quite an expensive job. I have also been told that you can have the DPF and eoyls deleted and the car then mapped. My concern would be in regards to subsequent MOTs with this (failing emissions test, etc). Has anyone experience of this please? The technician I spoke to from the tuning company who had experience of this was very open with me said that some MOT testers (might) overlook the DPF delete, where others might not and the emissions test (again might) result in a MOT fail. Any guidance gratefully received.

You have been ill-advised. It is illegal to remove the emissions system or equipment for public road use and they damn well know this - they just want your money. They should be reported as these people are the pits. They are the ones who have been leaving people in misery and with big bills.

We won't discuss anything on this Forum relating to such practices , sorry, but be advised you could lose your insurance cover if you do so, as the vehicle will no longer meet the certification when new.

I suggest you get it replaced at another garage and be done with it. The additive tank is not that difficult to replace, but will need the additive counter reset on the engine ECU when it is replaced and filled.

Removing such equipment will mean the vehicle smokes - and smoke is not allowed at MOT testing. You will also have ongoing problems with the engine management system.

Thanks for the information Mark, duly noted. I will look to get the additive tank replaced ASAP. I was told (again could be misinformed) that they are very expensive, so any suggestions on the best source for one would be appreciated. Again, really value your guidance here - thank you.

So you have a hard reservoir on your Xsara and the tanks brand new ex fitting are about £450 from Citroen, but you can them for much less than that here:

https://www.neobrothers.co.uk/car-parts ... ump-1500w5

Do you have your VIN handy as this will be the first Xsara Picasso HDi 110 that I've dealt with that has a particle filter. Most of them don't for that model and engine, so worth making sure. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

Thanks Marc again. The VIN number is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. I am not sure to be honest whether it has a particle filter. I've tried to attach a picture of the tank in question (not sure whether this helps/adds anything though)?

Yep, this model does have DPF confirmed by your VIN and that is the additive tank in your picture. So the info in link I provided earlier is correct for this vehicle.

The colour of Eolys comes from an iron compound which is part of the mix. As such it should respond to being dowsed in hydrochloric acid which will make a soluble chloride compound which, in turn, can be washed down the cracks. I don't know what colour the active ingredient (cerine) is but I believe that it will also form a soluble chloride which will wash away.

You can buy fairly concentrated hydrochloric acid from a builder's merchant where it is known as brick acid.

Thanks Marc - when I checked the link you kindly shared for the new tank, the item was no longer available from Neobrothers. Not sure whether there are any other sources? I'd have to get the eoyls solution too, but hopefully that won't be too expensive.

Thanks Paul too for your tip for removing the residue from my driveway - I will give that a go.

Let us know how successful (or otherwise!) the acid is.

I can't provide you with the part number directly, as you need a membership upgrade for that service that we offer, but if you look at the end of the description in the link I provided, the info you need is at the end after the word 'pump'. Use this to google that reference to see if there are some other suppliers.

These have a used one in stock. They are using the part number that is engraved on the actual tank (as you can see in the pictures), so I'd contact them to check it is compatible - but from the information I have, there was only one type of additive tank available for the engine in your Xsara Picasso, (DV6TED4), so if they say it is for the Xsara Picasso this could be the one.

I would check your existing tank for the markings as shown in the pictures on the one for sale for the 96* number and then use that to search on as it will bring up more search results. This is the international part number which may have more results for you.

Again super guidance Marc. I looked at the ebay link and the 9 number (9640629480) in particular. I do not have access to a ramp for ease of viewing the number on my car, but managed to get a picture of some of the numbers that were not blocked by the metal bar and I could make out the final 5 numbers *****29480 (see picture). The other number starting N was an exact match too. I would be very hopeful this new tank is the same. I just now need to establish a garage that I have confidence in fitting it with the eoyls solution + doing the ECU reset you mentioned earlier. I'd be happy to travel (anywhere!) to find someone I could have this confidence in so any recommendations very welcome. Thanks again.

That's the one, so seems a perfect match.

As for Lexia owners who may be able to assist if you can't locate a decent garage:

Have a look at our list of members who have offered Lexia / Peugeot Planet 2000 / Diagbox Diagnostics help if you haven't already seen it - link below:

At the end of the list is a link to a Google Map, showing the geographic locations of members and details. Just use the Private Message or Email links on the member's profile to contact anyone suitable.

List of Lexia / Diagbox Owners with Kits Offering Help

Bear in mind, although we update the list as often as we can, not all members are active on the Forum all the time, so it may take a while for a reply.

Brilliant, thanks Marc - so, if I can get the tank and refill of eoyls sorted it looks like there are several members who can assist with the final ECU reset that you mentioned. I travel quite a lot and there are several members who I may look to reach out to once I've managed to acquire what I need and should I not have any luck with 'trusted' garages. Thanks again, super helpful!
