Front top struts.

Post by Steffen »

Hi guys.
Which way faces out on the top struts bearing , i think the previous owner installed them incorrectly..
Its a Citroen c2 1.6 VTR.
Theres at little bump of rubber on the top of the bearing , should it face inwards against each other ?

Kind regards Steffen.

There are 2 types of strut mount. One for cars built pre-2005 and one post 2005. We would need your RPO number to tell you which one you should have.
You would need to remove the entire strut to see if you have the correct mount.
The strut mount is supposed to have a pin sticking upwards which goes through the OUTER hole in the chassis shock mount. This pin is offset between the two different models. If there is no pin, you have a problem.

Most (front) strut mounts made by PSA across their small car range look identical...but they are not!! If they are so close, why didn't PSA just design their cars to make them all the same??
I compared C2/C3, C4, 207. Practically the same...but aren't! This could lead to mistakes in the after market area if the buyer doesn't know what the part should look like.
Yes I know, engineering blah, blah!

On one of the door pillars there should be a sticker with tyre pressures on. The RPO will be at the top of the sticker, then the paint code and then the pressures. It might also be on the Warranty booklet.

If your car was built in 2004 or earlier, it's a MK1. If its built in 2006 or later it's a MK2. If your car was built in 2005 it could be either, that was the change over year.

This is what the hole in the fender mount looks like (and my approximation of what a MK2 would look like). This pic is from a C3, so it's not exactly the same layout, but you get the picture.
In the MK2 both the left and right mounts are the same, meaning the holes in the fender for the pins are NOT mirrored. So when you look at the fender mounts from the front of the car, the left mount hole (looking from the front) is at the 8 O'clock position, whereas the right mount hole is at the 2 O'clock position!
