TPMS not displaying error, but detected in Diagbox

Unread post by measaura »

Hi all,

I bought a 3008 2014 model almost 2 years ago. Changed the SD card of the RT6 because it's corrupted. Thanks to Marc, I manage to revive the RT6.

However, I had 3 tyre puncture during these years, and no indication or warning pop up on my dashboard. Happened once after the puncture, I went to my usual workshop to diagnose my HPFP (that's another story) but then my mechanic told me that my tyre is punctured during his scanning. I saw the error and it stated the correct punctured tyre location (which I haven't replace yet and still using the spare tyre).

Last week I had another puncture and still I didn't get any warning light or error on my dashboard. Any settings that I need to enable in the Diagbox to be able to view the warning?

Thanks!

In this case it is likely that somebody prior to your ownership has disabled the TPMS system. They also may have replaced the TPMS sensors on the wheels with standard valves and disabled the TPMS ECU, which is why you are likely not getting any warnings. If the sensors alone were faulty, you would be getting a warning message regarding the system and that the one or more wheels are "not monitored". As you are not getting the warnings from what you are saying, then this is likely what has happened and not unheard of.

You should check the valves and see if they are the rubber / plastic type or the metal type. If plastic, they will likely be standard valves that have been swapped.

Thanks for the explanation Marc. During the tyre change last year, I did notice the sensors are there on the wheels. I believe it's still working and that's how the Diagbox detected my punctured tyre. I just didn't even get any warning like "Tyre not monitored" or such in the dashboard.

Now, how do I re-enable the TPMS so I can get the warnings in the dashboard? I suspect that the settings are corrupted when the old SDcard corrupted last time, and my backup didn't backup the whole settings. I can borrow my mechanic's Diagbox if needed.

Hi Dinas

It depends what the issue actually is.

If the system has been disabled in Diagbox to stop the 'nag' warnings, then the system will need re-enabling using Diagbox or another professional level diagnostic tool and the sensors may also need pairing again. Be wary though, that if one of the sensors is actually faulty or the battery module inside any of the sensors has run down (they only last up to about 10 years), then you may get the warning back which can be annoying and will remain until the faulty sensor (s) is replaced, paired and activated using an 'exciter' tool.

It may be worth running a diagnostic first to see what the actual status of the TPMS system and take it from there - but if your have the RT6 and didn't back up (or weren't able to) and restore your configuration settings from your original MicroSD card, then this also could prevent the system from notifying you. I know on some vehicles that the TPMS warning is independent from the telematics units, with the warning being displayed on the dashboard LCD display...

If you have a dealer there, it may be worth getting the RT6 re-configured to your vehicle's specification as it left the factory (as Diagbox can't do this offline - needs dealer log-in access to their servers or paid access tokens and Diagbox). That way for the cost of a diagnostic session they may be able to re-download the RT6 configuration, check all options are there and then sort out the TPMS settings at the same time.
