Citroen have supplied me with a flangeless right side gearbox lip seal /driveshaft seal.
The moderator here kindly suggested a mail order supplier showing the correct part with flange, but I thought citroen would be quicker.
Bit concerned without the exterior flange theres nothing but friction stopping the seal going too far into gearbox: theres no shelf or lip in the housing, just a nice smooth opening leading into the diff waiting to chew up anything going in too far.
Need the van moving so I'll probably put the new part in today and hope for the best.
If anyone knows that this is a bad idea give me a shout, I could track down a seal with flange at a later date.
The new part also has a soft rubber lip which is going to squash when driven in with a socket. It might not matter, its on the outside and wouldnt contact the shaft.
New part on left in photo. Old seal on right.

Surprised Citroen supplied a "flangeless" version. I've seen countless aftermarket versions stated as compatible which lack the flange too, but like you I'd probably worry about it migrating inwards. Have seen some with it too though

Re: Driveshaft seal right Dispatch
Thanks for replies Matt and Richard.
Citroens updated / superceded part number is 1686556580 which is on the bag. The seal has a tiny number stamped on it 9837728580 which has cropped up in the part numbers thread on this forum.
The old part number was 1675689680 which may or may not refer to the flanged seal exclusively.
Also 312126 seems to refere to the old part.
Matt: yes Im not reassured by citroen who ignored the flange aspect in my emails and said the new part will fit.

Re: Driveshaft seal right Dispatch
The supplier is the same as Richard suggested: eurocarcare
Extremely helpful, knew what seal fitted.
https://www.eurocarcare.net/gearbox-par ... right.html
I've ordered the part from there.
Despite a couple of people at citroen dealers being helpful on the phone, nobody was able to pick a seal off the shelf and check it against photos i sent them.
One operative did seem to check the part by hand, but couldnt confirm if it had the flange on it or not despite me telling him it was 60mm diameter.
I would have banged the new part in today, but the soft rubber lip on the outside is attached to plastic, so if it was a tight fit it might get damaged pressing it in, and if it wasnt a tight fit then how would it stay in place.

Re: Driveshaft seal right Dispatch
..I fitted the seal with metal flange in the end. the flangeless seals are clearly not the ticket.
