Allo allo and greetings from the north! Long time French car owner, have had quite a few, 205 Lacoste, 405 GRi, 405 Gutmann i, 405 Mi16, Xantia, 605, currently driving a Xsara Picasso that has been "vanified" so the rear seats have been removed and disabled so it`s a 1+1 van for tax reasons, love the car but it does have 430tkm on the clock so problems are a plenty, I drive for work, namely deliver mail in a very rural countryside town so mostly gravel roads which are full of potholes so the car is getting quite a beating on a daily basis which is why I`m here as I`m seeking help for some of the issues I`m currently having in some posts I`ll be creating shortly after this one but figured I`d say hi first!

Welcome Matt I have a C3 Picasso and it's been used as a van almost continually in my ownership. Only rarely do the back seats ever rise from their folded position and then only to ferry my Granddaughter around!

Thanks for the welcome mates, need to be making those troubleshoothing threads some day when I remember, since the last post the car developed a pretty bad coolant leak and from what I gathered crawling under it, it seems to be coming from underneath the cambelt cover so 99% certain the waterpump bit the dust. Soonest I could get it into a garage was the Monday 16th and I need to drive it daily at work so currently hauling a jug of water and an another one of glycol as I need to fill it up once or twice daily as it stands...

The main problem I`m having with it right now is in the rear drum brakes. Please excuse my lack of terminology as English is my third language BUT in the drum brakes there is the automatic tension adjuster screw thingy that goes between the front shoe and the rear handbrake lever, and then there`s the small metal clip with it`s tensioner spring that`s supposed to turn the star gear on the automatic adjuster as the pads wear. NO matter what I do the adjuster clips keep popping off the pins in the shoes on both sides dropping into the drum and getting churned into dust between the drum and the shoes and no one has been able to provide me with an answer why this keeps happening. I`ve had to COMPLETELY rebuilt the rear brakes since I bought the car, like literally EVERYTHING downstream of the rear axel distributor block, hardlines, calipers, drums, shoes, EVERYTHING is new so I`m all out of ideas why this keeps happening over and over.

Sorry to hear about your brakes, can you pop up a couple of pics showing the pins etc and the drum layout to remind me. It is a fair few years since I worked on that type and the memory is a bit hazy. To add pics just go to the bottom of the posting box and click Attachments tab. Then click on Add Files and select your pics. Finally put the cursor where you want the pics to appear and click Place Inline beside each pic.

I know there are many others who will have the necessary knowledge to help but if they don't appear the pics will help

Sure thing, both sides shown here with brand new adjusters. Think I got three days til I heard the ominous churn again when the clips got pinned between the drum and the shoe, usually happens when I`m reversing, I hear this "sprang" sound then roll forward and hear the scrape and already know what happened yet again...

Which clips are you referring to that get caught between the shoe and the drum? Do you mean the washer like dished clips that are spring loaded to retain the shoes?

This clip and it`s tensioner spring don`t know what to call it but no matter what I do or which way I fit the spring they keep popping off.

as you can see from the picture the part that is supposed to turn the star gear is barely making contact with it almost like the clip part is too long and once once I pull the handbrake the clip overshoots the star gear thus getting loose that is the only explanation I can come up with

I think you may have inadvertantly swapped the springs between wheels. They are handed and as you can see in the attached the springs lever end should point inward and the longer end goes behind the shoe. If you just move the spring in your pic behind you would have the top pointing the wrong way so I think you need to swap the springs over, side to side and fit as in this picture:
