Citroën relay handbrake problem

Unread post by daviemck2006 »

The handbrake on my relay is goosed. The lever has no resistance and comes right up. It has coincided with a racket like something metallic connecting with something else going in time with the speed of the van. It sounds like it's coming from the left side rear wheel. It's been terrible weather here for a few days, the van is not needed so is sitting unused in the drive. A quick finger through the wheel says it has discs. Does anyone know how the handbrake is on these and what the problem could be? Oh also the abs warning light is on now too.

Looks like a drum in the disc arrangement. Imagine one side has disintegrated, and taken the ABS sensor with it...

Thats the line of thinking I had. It will have to wait until a better day of weather appears, which could be about June, before I strip it down for a look. The handbrake was "fixed" for its mot a few months ago, done as a homer by a guy who was recommended to me as being a "mechanic" All the garages around here I have found to be absolutely rubbish, I have no confidence in any of them, and yet they all are fully booked for about two months. Since my usual go to one closed due to retirement a few years ago I can't find a decent one at all. The circle of ones I have tried is getting wider and wider.

As said sounds like the shoes have came detached somehow & ripped the sensor off. Did anyone pull the handbrake on whilst the van was moving? They dont like that.

No. I'm the only one who has driven it since it came back from its mot and previous "fix" Another day of chucking it down here, I cant let myself get soaked to the skin inspecting this outside. Need a 100%dry day for me to have a look at it, which I am determined to do myself. I dont need it running, it just means the dog doesn't get out for a run, it doesn't get into the skoda.
