Citroen C4 08 Key Not Working / Anti Theft.

Unread post by fromthesamehill »

I inherited a Citroen C4 with two keys. One never worked so we left it. It's never had any remote function so I just unlock the passenger door. Recently the snapped out of the fob, and due to being out I had to glue it back into the key matrix which worked. Due do the key matrix being damaged, I replaced it. I had soak the other end of the key that goes into the key matrix in nail polish remover and that allowed me to get the glue off. I put it in the new key holder and when I went to start the car this morning it wouldn't start and the anti-theft message was being displayed.

Both keyholders don't have batteries or chips. I just have the physical key. I left alone the part of the key that goes into the ignition.
Do these keys have a built in chip, and what is the best fix?

I'll hold off until someone can give me a hand because I don't want to get stuck with a huge bill as I didn't plan on keeping the car much longer.

Thanks

Have a look at this thread with regards to swapping over the ID46 chip.

A C4 doesn't use a separate chip, it's part of the board.
Might be worth taking the board out & give it a good clean. i wouldnt have thought nail polish remover would have done it any harm unless maybe it was soaked in it for a prolonged period of time.
Do you have Lexia or Diagbox? do you have the immobiliser security code?
