DS5 Auto 1.6 13 reg

Post by Citroenmonamor »

I purchased a used D5 1.6 Auto 13 reg with some gearbox fault in an auction. The gearbox error code showed up.The previous owner i purchased it off had said it was an occasional problem. I got the car trailered home just in case of trouble..When the car finally arrived it would drive around in low gear before displaying the gearbox problem and refusing to engage gears and staying in neutral and also not staring. On checking tne battery it had average charge even after an off car charge..I got a new battery fitted and the car worked fine engaging gears properly . I also cleaned up the above battery fuse box and checked all fuses for resistance. The fuses were all fine but the battery positive lead had one connection lead that had poor continuity, so I cleaned it up which improved that..i drove it for an MOT today and it passed 1st time. I then drove it around town without fault. I then took it on the Motorway and put it in manual instead of auto then tne esr fault came on then the abs, then the gearbox error .The car continued driving ok although in manual it would changed gear like an auto. I stopped at the services for 10 mins started up again with no faults showing. I drove it back home, at under 40 mph it drove fine but over I needed the manual paddle-shift to change down it also wouldn't go above 3rd gear. Again thinking this is an electrical fault possibly with back continuity in the above battery fuse box..Any ideas on this appreciated

You need it properly diagnosed, preferably using a Lexia kit with Diagbox. There is a substantial list of potential fault codes for these boxes, so impossible to provide you with an answer without these.

When you have them, pop them up with your VIN for further help.

Please note I've deleted your other topic regarding the fault codes as this causes duplication of answers when you've asked about them here.

Ok, so Fault P1755 can arise from contamination in the gear control piloting actuator. The recommendation on other vehicles is to try the gearbox programming procedure. If it fails, the recommendation is to replace the clutch stop. If it is successful, then the recommendation is to replace the piloting actuator.

So this is really a dealer job to ascertain the correct course of action.

To say these boxes are a pig when they go wrong is an understatement, but here are the descriptors for you:
Fault Code: P1755
Description of Fault: Clutch jammed: Coherence. Clutch actuator fault: incorrect position in relation to the reference value.
Context of appearance of the fault code
At least one of the following conditions must be fulfilled:
- Free wheel
- engine running

Technical precision on the context of appearance of the fault code:
- In gear changing phase
- In clutch opening phase
- Absence of error on the clutch electrovalve and on the engine speed signal
Conditions for Fault to clear: After switching the ignition off and then back on
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: If there is a problem with opening the clutch:
- Automatic mode deactivated
- Change of gear interrupted

If there is random closing of the clutch:
- Emergency selection of neutral
- Change of gear prohibited as long as neutral is not engaged

If there is a problem operating the clutch:
- Emergency request for stopping of engine provided engine close to idling speed
- Emergency selection of neutral
- Gear change deactivated

If the clutch is jammed open:
Opening of the clutch

If there is a problem with initialisation of the closed position:
No back-up mode

If there is a problem with opening the clutch:
If the vehicle has the Stop and Start system: Stop and start function deactivated.
If there is random closing of the clutch during the Stop and Start phase: Restarting in Stop and Start mode impossible.

Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message (*):

- The system is not in starting phase
Conditions for Fault to clear: Reception of 20 consecutive items of valid information
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Possibility 1
Electric parking brake: Invalid signal
- Engine running or in Stop and Start phase; Replacement value: Brake activated
- Engine stopped and not in Stop and Start phase; Replacement value: Brake deactivated
- Crawling deactivated
Possibility 2

- Absence of fault codes U1000 - U1003 - U1113
- The system is not in starting phase
Conditions for Fault to clear: Reception of 20 consecutive items of valid information.

You have a piloted manual system, so It won't work until you have had the clutch and gear actuators programmed. This is a procedure contained within Diagbox.

Silly question but do you have to get the clutch bitting point 1st or is it straight into the clutch actuator programming then the gear actuator programming ?

Update..A garage changed the Clutch, Flywheel but we had a problem getting it to change change gear ..I had them fit a used ecu for the transmission..Their auto electrician has used his Autel machine to program the gearbox and remove faults codes. its going in gear from their Autel, but its still giving the Error Code P1800 and not going in gear from the car gear lever..Any ideas please??

Doesn't look like their tool is capable of doing the job properly, especially as this is a new fault code after they have attempted to programme it.....
Fault Code: P1800
Description of Fault: Gearbox programming incomplete or not carried out fault: Not characterised. Selection gate initialisation not completed or not done.

Context of appearance of the fault code
The following conditions have to be met:
- ECU woken up
- Ignition on for more than 5 seconds
Conditions for Fault to clear: -
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Automatic mode deactivated
  • Crawling deactivated
  • Take-off deactivated
  • Gear change prohibited
  • Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message (*): "SERVICE" warning lamp
  • Sport warning lamp
  • Snow warning lamp
  • Automatic or 6-speed piloted manual gearbox warning lamps (Orange PRND triangle)
  • Display of a "-" on the fascia panel
Symptoms:
  • Impossible to make the vehicle move
  • Lack of power
  • Difficult/impossible to change a gear
Suspect Areas:
  • Programming to be carried out in after sales

If you're talking about the piloted gearbox ECU, no you can't clone this - it has to be properly programmed as per the following operations which have to be done if the ECU is replaced:
  • Pressurise and bleed the hydraulic circuit
  • The initialisation of the clutch engaging point
  • The initialisation of the gearbox grid
  • The writing of the counters into the new gearbox ECU
  • Programme the value of the engine torque transmitted to the clutch using the diagnostic tool.

There was 2 reversed wires on the actuator, the auto electrician fixed it.
