Berlingo 2001 1.9D Bosch mech fuel pump microswitch

Having done the cylinder head and new timing kit, I notice on the last leg of reassembly, there's a bit missing off the microswitch !
It's the Bosch mechanically timed pump, and the lever that works the microswitch off the cam, on the top of the pump...is gone !
Does it matter ?
It stops theft doesn't it ? Does it do more than that ?
If I buy a new one, can I just "plug and play?"
The Haynes manual goes a bit mystical about this, suggesting shear bolts have to be cut off (I can see two screws holding it on and a lead down to a dual mounting for 2 connectors on the front. The second connector runs in behind the pump, is thet the actual "stop valve ?")
Haynes further says it needs maindealer's computer to set it up ?
Any info greatly appreciated !

Post a pic of the component you are talking about.
The stop electrovalve is under a security shield with shear bolts but the micro switch should just be screwed on.

It might be possible to replace the lever (if it is part of the microswitch). I have seen such microswitches where the lever just fits over a couple of pivot points on the switch itself. This ebay link shows these sort of switches (with various levers).

I found a Bosch pump with nearly 200,000 miles on it, with the switch on top for 99 euros, in Holland !
I have a pic of it......
My switch has lost the mount and roller arm.
That's the rear view, you can see the switch and black cam follower on the top.

You'll likely not notice any difference with the microswitch not working... As far as I recall, all it does is detect when the engine is well off idle and turns off cold advance and glolwplug post-heating when the engine coolant is still below 60 degrees C.

This is done on the basis that despite a cold engine, it's driving along under load so the post heating and cold advance is no longer needed.

Unless you live in penguin-land and it regularly falls cold enough to make brass monkeys shiver, I'd not be over worried about it...
