DS-3 Air Con Compressor Replacement = Flashing Headlights!

Unread post by moto_traxport »

Hi all

I have an odd issue with my DS-3. The Air Con compressor became seized enough that it would almost stall the engine & lit up the dash with every warning light if you forgot and put the AC on or turned the fan speed all the way off and back on again in which case it would automatically engage the AC.

Anyway 8 months without AC / moved house and finally saved up enough to have local garage change the compressor (genuine Citroen) & re-gas it etc. It no longer stalls the engine (hurrah), blows cold (double hurrah etc) but now when it's on it causes the headlights to flash slightly and the fan blower speed 'pulses'.

I've got the car back now as technically the garage has solved the seized compressor issue and this fault could have been there forever from their point of view.

Garage thinks it could be a relay, fuse board or CANBUS fault and is currently on phone-a-friend mode - i.e. speak to car electronics expert.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

I would also note that the Stop / Start hasn't cut in for about a year or so (long, long before AC seizure). A few flashes of green 'Eco' light suggests it's thinking about it and then it continues to idle. Its not bothered me but interesting that something isn't happy enough and lends weight to something not quite right electronically for quite a while.

It's a 1.6 110hp HDI model if that makes any odds. It's also the convertible version hence the lack of enthusiasm during Summer to sort the issue instantly.

Cheers, Jon

Stop Start pre-requisites are many and varied for it to work. The most common issue is the battery being under charge, or depending which version of Stop & Start the energy accumulator.
