replacement IR (infrared) remote for S1 1997 Xantia

Can anyone help me with a replacement of my IR door lock remote for my S1 Xantia V6 (with key pad).
The original IR remote was lost before I bought my car.
Is it in fact possible to find an original door lock remote control for my S1 Xantia?
Do I need to find a pair of the remote AND the receiver (located in the headliner between the sun visors) for it to work?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated ( I have searched the Internet / Google without any success.)

For a series 1 Xantia, you can re-use a second hand fob and pair your car to it.
It is getting quite rare to find a suitable fob, particularly one where the rubber button covers are not broken.
If the car har deadlocking (most UK Xantias) it needs a 2 button remote, if it does not have deadlocking, then it needs a 1 button remote.
No need to change the receiver, they are not coded.

I think you will struggle. If it helps the original part nos were 649065 (2 button deadlocking) or 6552WZ (non deadlocking) this may help with your search.
Failing that There are plenty of aftermarket kits that could be fitted.

To get a second hand fob, you need to find someone who is (or has) breaking a series 1 Xantia. 10 or 15 years ago I would pick them up in breakers yards, but that would be unlikely today.

As Wheeler mentioned, it is fairly easy to fit a cheap aftermarket remote locking set, the required wires are all present at the existing IR receiver.

Deadlocking is a 2 stage locking procedure which also locks the doors so that they cannot be opened from inside the car using the buttons on the doors.

Your VIN can determine if it has deadlocking or not.

Alternatively Drop the drivers window down (as a precaution) lock the door with the key in the door lock but hold it in the lock position for around 5 seconds & you should hear a second click from the door lock actuator. Now try to open the door from the inside if you cant you have deadlocking.

Can anyone direct me to a suitable aftermarket door unlock Kit to install in my 1997 Xantia?
It seems that would be best and an improvement over the Infrared door unlock system which is only line of sight.
(and I don't have / was not given the IR remote when I bought the car) .
I would also need to know how to connect it to the unit in the car roof head liner between the sun visors. Can someone assist me with those connections? I have found aftermarket door lock remote control units on Ebay with many many wires and this is a puzzle to me .

I can get you the original wiring diagram, but need to know if your car has deadlocking.
And is there an LED mounted in the A/C sensor (next to the clock)?

If i remember right the Xantia uses negative trigger locking however this kit is configurable for all the main types.

Lets get a wiring diagram up so we can have a look at wiring it up.

I think that to be legal, remote plips in the USA must use a different frequency than Europe/UK.

OK, here are some diagrams. They come from the RHD wiring books, but for the locking system the wiring is probably identical to LHD

First the diagrams without deadlocking:
In this case there is just a single wire (627) from the IR receiver (6230) to the locking ECU (6235) which pulses low to lock, and pulses low again to unlock.






Then with deadlocking:
In this case the lock/unlock wire is the same as without deadlocking, but there is an extra wire (628) that is pulsed low to trigger deadlocking and enable the alarm (if fitted).

IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT YOU WIRE AFTERMARKET INTO 6230 ? (IR UNIT IN ROOF BETWEEN SUN VISORS) : IS THAT CORRECT? 4 WIRES .

BUT I read
The Plip Controller (in roof / head liner?) has five wires:

• Pin 1 has a mushroom coloured wire (- Negative to earth)
• Pin 2 has an orange wire (positive, only live on ignition) F30
• Pin 3 has a grey wire – either lock or unlock
• Pin 4 has a grey wire – either lock or unlock
• Pin 5 has a grey wire (+ positive, always live) F25 fuse

Please give me a little more direction so that I may understand how to correctly connect the aftermarket Door Lock Remote control

The first thing to learn about PSA wiring is to always ignore the colour of wires. Each wire has a number printed on the insulation, repeated every few inches. These numbers are on the wiring diagrams. You can also use pin numbers on connectors, but those are sometimes hard to decipher.

The IR receiver is the same with or without deadlocking, but has 5 wires connected with deadlocking and 4 without.

My Plip controller has 5 wires : 1. Mushroom -ve, 2. orange +ve apparently only with ignition on, and 3, 4 and 5 are grey wires

I did the DEADLOCKING TEST and my car seems to NOT have deadlocking (I hold key in door lock to lock position and hold for 5-10 seconds
