Non starter.

Greetings all.

Yesterday I pumped 22Lt of diesel out of my now dead Audi a4 b7 & put it into my 1.6 hdi Berlingo.
Went shopping last night no problem. Went to work today, did about 15 miles, no worries.
Received a new key fob case which was much needed as the old one is perforating. Changed the battery in the key fob, put it into the new case.
The car was left unlocked after work. Went to go out this evening, turned the key and it would not start up. The starter turns but no spark.
Is it the old fuel that may have settled some dirt into the bottom of the tank??
The car locks & unlocks with the key fob. But it will not start!!

Now I've tried a reset of the key fob by means of the following instructions found at viewt...hp?t=65083
- "Putting the key in the ignition, turning ignition on and pressing a lock button within 10 seconds, releasing & turning off the ignition, remove the key and wait a few seconds, then reinsert and try starting it."

- "Put the driver’s window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all
equipment is switched off.
Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the
ignition.
Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait
15 seconds.
Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do
not open doors.)
Switch on the side lights through the driver's window.
Switch on the ignition and check system’s functionality.
Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds.
remove key open & close door test central locking system
Start the engine and complete the system’s check."

Please help me to get my Berlingo back on the road!!!?

Just follow the relevant part of the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure after the battery reconnection. So long as you haven't changed the transponder chip in the fob it should be fine.

Could this type of key have a separate ID46 chip? Leaving that in the old fob would cause exactly this type of problem.

No idea Paul. All I changed was the key fob case & the battery. The key & pc board are original.

Can you post a picture of the key fob please? If it's the same as my old Berlingo, there is a little chip in the fob that isn't part of the main board. You need to prise it out and put it in the new fob.

Managed to send pictures of the key fob by android.

I reckon it's missing the ID46 chip.




The chip might be a separate item and even smaller than the one in the first photo. Roughly 5mm by 2mm.

Ya, the little chip was found in the casing for the key fob.
You wouldn't know it's there unless you know what to look for.

Got it all sorted now.
