Hello I have a 2008 Relay (vin VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]) that has an problem with the ECU not powering up/intermittent fault. Problem when happens is the EML either A doesnt come on or B when it does it just flickers and the Immobliser light will not go out. Van did actually start this morning but after turning it off the problem returned so I am thinking a bad connection or broken wire somewhere. I have starting doing some diagnostic work and one test is Measure the resistance between pins A J2 (ECU) and A 26 (E39 System interface control unit).
Could someone clarify what the E39 system interface unit is and where it is located. Any help is appreciated

The BSI is located behind the panel by your right knee. Be aware that there may be a metal security bracket held on by shear bolts that prevent acess to some of the connections on the BSI.
What wiring diagrams are you using ? E39 sounds like autodata component codes. The original diagrams would just refer to it as BSI.

Thanks for the reply Wheeler, its an online haynes manual, I think the E39 interface is known as the BSI and yes mine has sheer bolts on it. I am suspecting the ECU is faulty. Story goes like this.
Van stood and battery went flat over time, battery disconnected, charged and reconnected and the following faults happened, with ignition on the EML light either just flickers or does not come on and the immobliser light does not go out
Van will crank but not fire, but yesterday after doing all the checks on PIN in PIN outs on the ECU the problems cleared and the van started and ran for over half hour but EML light stayed on. Turned van off to plug in the Autel and the problem returned and no matter what I try now the problem persists! All grounds cleaned and tested and bypassed with heavy duty jump leads from battery neg to grounds
Its a brand new Autel OBD (£700) reader but will not auto find vehicle VIN but I can enter manually but no fault codes logged as if the ECU is not there. I tested Autel on another vehicle and its working fine.
From my tests I don't seem to be getting a ground from the ECU to the main relay for it to switch a ground. I really could do with knowing what inputs the ECU needs to enable the ground output for the main relay so I can eliminate that
I could also do with a BSI pin out diagram so I can test connections from the ECU to this.
Any other help or advice is appreciated
