BCM for Berlingo - any advice

Hi Folks

My rear left indicator stopped working and when I realised it wasn't just a bulb I tried the 'old school' trick of running a wire from the front that was working, but to no avail. It's presently been with a garage for over a month with people going on holiday and forgetting about it etc. but I've been now told it needs a new Body Control module for it. The suggestion is to get one from ebay/a breakers but that it might not be possible to recode it successfully without taking to a dealership. Not sure what's the best thing to do or what costs are likely to be for a new one fitted by main dealer. It's a 14 year old car with 160K miles on it and not sure the best way forward. Any advice please?

I'd forget all that so called 'advice'.

First get rid of any wiring to the front indicator, that's ridiculous and will probably cause more problems than it solves.

Next you need to check the electrical connection to the the lamp unit and specifically check the condition of each pin and especially the earth pin. A bad earth can cause malfunctions and even start to melt or burn the plug.

Pop your VIN up and I'll see if I can dig out a wiring diagram for you so you can see which pins are which.

Has a trailer socket or lights board been wired in?

A citroen dealer is unlikely to be able to help you recode a used BSI to your car. This is not something that the dealer diag tool can do.
Really need to know what year it is to help further.
Is it a mk1, 2, 3 or 4?
As said above the VIN would be the best.

EDIT: Just realised you said it was 14 years old so will likely be a mk3. Still would want to have a look at a wiring diagram before advising further.

Car still at garage so couldn't look at VIN but found some documentation with Engine no. JBBU3016029 & Chassis No. VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] (is that same as VIN). Date of reg feb 09

OK the power feed for this indicator comes from pin 14 of the 16 way black connector. It goes directly to the rear light unit & does not go via any connectors or splices.
After confirming the bulb & earth are good disconnect the 16 way black connector from the BSI & apply a (fused) 12v feed from the battery to pin 14, does the lamp illuminate??
If it does you have just confirmed the wiring is ok.
