Hello everyone,
Car is a Citroen C3 (2015), model 2016, 100HP 1.6 diesel. (can i attach VIN number?)
I am currently trying to figure out the problem with my car, since the ABS/ESP has been shut off, with the in-display faults stating "Tire pressure system faulty" and "ABS/ESP fault". with the attached error codes from my Lexia scantool.
I recently had the ABS module changed after the wheels locked up, where the first "tire pressure fault" also first arrived (before new ABS module). My mechanic told me the return flow from the pump was broken, which is why they locked.
He changed the module with a used one, but i am not sure if it is from the mechanics job, or something else that is causing it. The wheel speed sensors seem to show correct speed, but other than that i am at a loss.
Fault codes from ABS system show "C1641" and fault from voltage maintaining device is "P1B71". Is there a short circuit/broken line i should check for somewhere, and where should i first look?

Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff. I'll then be able to see what vehicle and system you have and provide some info on the faults.

Ok, so when the ESP Module was changed did your 'mechanic' bother to check the ESP ECU configuration and ensure it was configured specifically to match your engine and options?
This is what fault code C1641 is saying:
As for the P1B71 fault which is a separate issue, that refers to the Network Voltage Maintaining Device.
This is what fault code C1641 is saying:
Fault Code: | C1641 |
Description of Fault: | Fault on the pairing: ABS/ESP electrovalves / hydraulic valve block. Matching not carried out. Conditions of activation of the diagnostics The following conditions have to be met: - Value of the electrovalves outside the range - Calibration of the electrovalves not done (Matching not carried out) |
Conditions for Fault to clear: | After switching the ignition off and then back on |
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: |

Symptoms: |

Suspect Areas: |

As for the P1B71 fault which is a separate issue, that refers to the Network Voltage Maintaining Device.
Fault Code: | P1B71 |
Description of Fault: | Network voltage maintaining device triggering line fault: Short circuit to earth or open circuit. Short circuit to earth for 500 ms. Conditions of activation of the diagnostics At least one of the following conditions must be fulfilled: - Ignition on - With the engine running |
Conditions for Fault to clear: | - |
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: |

Re: Citroen C3 model 2016 error codes/ABS fault
Hello Marc and thank you,
i tested the activation of all the valves, which where all clicking fine, so would you still think some sort of calibration is needed? Should i complain to the mechanic or try and do it myself with the Lexia?

If you replaced the ESP ECU and the block, this is the procedure:
If you kept the original ECU, then it is essential that the ECU is compatible with the hydraulic block and that the correct part was fitted as there are different types.
Configuration of the dynamic stability control ECU
Using the diagnostic tool, perform the procedures: "Replacement of the ECU without reading/writing of the adaptive data" and "calibration of the gyrometer/accelerometer sensor".
Configure the new dynamic stability control ECU using Diagbox or suitable professional level a diagnostic tool.
Carry out a calibration of the steering wheel angle sensor.
Read and clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool.

The ESP ECU is part of the ABS module, correct? The attached foto is the part he replaced, so i should configure the new ECU?

Re: Citroen C3 model 2016 error codes/ABS fault
1) That is not the correct part number for your vehicle.
2) That part in the picture shows the ABS Pump / Hydraulic Block.
The ESP ECU should be attached underneath the block in your picture, which I can't see.
The Pump and Hydraulic Block are one component, and the ECU in black is another component.
So it depends what in fact he has replaced - the whole unit or just the Pump / Block assembly.
If he has replaced the whole unit, then yes, he will need to configure it to make sure it is correctly configured for your specific vehicle - but note point 1) above, PSA are not showing this as a valid part for this vehicle.
So if he has replaced the whole part including the ECU, then it is not the correct one.

Re: Citroen C3 model 2016 error codes/ABS fault
After reconfiguration, everything works great, and all errors are gone (for now).
Thank you very much, you saved me a ton of money and trouble!
