Help removing shaft seal with metal ring insert?

Hello. I'm a bit flummoxed as how to remove o/s shaft seal on c3, ma g-box... see pic. The metal ring looks part of the box housing so reluctant to try and pry it out. Any help much appreciated.

How does it compare with your replacement one?
From your photo I would expect the shaft seal to be all one item, including the arrowed metal ring and the rubber/ neoprene ring outside of that.

Hello Ddclutch. Firstly thanks for replying.
I had another look and there is ridge on the metal ring, so I got the public disorderly bar under the ridge to see if there was movement and there was. Its out now... phew!. The new seal is the same circumference but no metal ring. here are some pics
