Speedo Cable Knackered " I think ? "

Post by welshy »

Hello everyone
I have a Citroen ZX 1900 Td on a *K* Plate
Coming home today i couldnt help but hear this continuing clicking noise which seemed to be coming from the centre of the dash.
had not got a clue what is was, and the noise got louder as the car got faster, and vice versa as i slowed down.
then all of a sudden i seen the speedo plummet to zero, and it was caput.
the most obvious thing is the speedo cable.
and if this is the case, what sort of job is envolved in replacing/repairing it,
or could it be something else ?
Cheers
tom

The lower part of the cable is a doddle to deal with. Un plug from gear box after pulling out rubber plug, replace with new cable and put rubber bung back in then screw new cable to top of old cable. The top half is a dash board out job, no easy way. I would first take out the speedo clock and test it on a work bench in the good old way of sticking a power drill (one with a slow start up and speeds) in the back to see if it works still. If so cable has gone. They ain't much to buy from GSF and the dash clock can be bought fron the usual places E-bay or breakers. Hope this helps.
