Hi All,
Have got a possible noisy bearing at the front my Neighbour and myself thought it was offside wheel bearing changed that and noise still there.
Will check nearside tomorrow but is there an intermediate bearing one of the drive shafts ?
My reasons are as follows the noise increase and decreases depending on speed. also it sounds worse when slowing down and turning to the left with slight noise turning to the right.
Suggestions please
Kenny

Re: Possible noisy bearing
Could be track rod end, could even be power steering fluid to low. Does the noise disappear after a 10 to 15 minute drive? Or is it constant?

Re: Possible noisy bearing
It's not power steering fluid as it's hydraulic X7 and the level was checked last week during the wheel hub bearing change. Suspension to lowest level using diagbox.
Noisy increases and decreases as the vehicle speeds up and slows down, not track rod ends recently replaced the pair. Hence the wheel bearing change.
Further thoughts please.

Re: Possible noisy bearing
If it's noticeable during accelerating and decelerating I'm more inclined to think it's an engine bearing. Not sure what's fitted on the X7 engine but I'd be looking towards water pumps etc...

Timing belt & waterpump along with both bearings was changed last September , aux belt tensioner changed 2years ago.

You sure the noise is front based?

Re: Possible noisy bearing
If it's varying with vehicle speed rather than engine speed (bit of coasting in neutral with engine idling should help pick between them) and changing when cornering. Then sounds wheel / bearing / front suspension related.
My experience of track rod end failing was a clunk.
Swap wheels front to rear - I had some cheap terrible tyres that made a "drone" at certain speeds, but then on the back and the noise moved too! Also has some not so cheap Goodyear's that did similar, to a lesser extent, when where pretty well worn

Re: Possible noisy bearing
+1 for swapping the wheels front to back to make sure it's not the tyres. I've had that several times - sounds like a wheel bearing going, actually turns out to be tyre noise due to UV degradation and/or just not being used enough to keep them in good order. Even had it on the hairdryer where it was just the tread design from the tyre factory causing it !

Thanks never thought of the tyres, will change them around tomorrow and see what happens.

Hi Kenny driver side driveshaft has a bearing on it it's in the support bracket for the connection to the lower engine mount. Could be it .

Re: Possible noisy bearing
The noise increases and decreases with vehicle speed not engine speed.
So rules out engine related bearings.
Hopefully its the FNS bearing will change and see.

Re: Possible noisy bearing
Finally got the wheel bearing changed FNS and noise gone. On removal i found grease from the bearing on the driveshaft.
Unfortunately when refitting brake caliper bolt one snapped and had to wait for replacements.
Now working fine.
