Fault codes P0234 and P0100

Unread post by KennyW »

Hi All,

Had the above fault codes appear this weekend both are local and intermittent faults

P0234 charge pressure regulation
air pressure lower than setting

P0100 Quantity of air greater than the minimum threshold

Not quite the same Kenny, as you have a Delphi Engine ECU, not Bosch, (I've removed that code descriptor image from your post to avoid confusion).

So for your engine:
Fault Code: P0234
Description of Fault: Boost pressure regulation: Air pressure above the reference value. Conditions for fault:
The measured turbocharged air pressure is 450 mbar above the reference value (For 6 seconds).
Engine speed between 2000 and 3000 rpm
Engine torque below 300 N.m
Conditions of activation of the diagnostics
The following conditions have to be met:
- Engine speed above 1500 rpm
- The actual engine torque is higher than 100 Nm
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Driving with engine hot for 5 minutes, with several accelerations at full load for 10 s followed by foot-offs
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Deactivation of the request for regeneration of the particle filter from the diagnostic tool
  • Deactivation of the EGR function
  • Cutting of the exhaust heat saver function
  • Prohibition of regenerations of the particle emission filter and stopping of those in progress
  • Deactivation of the kick-down for automatic gearboxes
  • Limitation of performance
  • Request for emergency closing of the turbocharged air cooler by-pass
  • Deactivation of the tight spot for the cruise control
Symptoms:
  • Noise
  • Diesel fuel consumption a bit higher
  • Lack of power
  • Engine hesitating, cutting out
  • Smoke from the exhaust
Suspect Areas:
  • Supercharging pressure sensor (Sensor drift ; Connectors ; Electrical harness)
  • Turbo air cooler by-pass
  • Electrovalve of the turbo air cooler by-pass unit
  • Position indicator of the turbocharging air cooler bypass unit
  • Turbocharger
  • Turbocharger electrovalve
  • Position indicator of the turbocharger
  • Electrical harness

Fault Code: P0100
Description of Fault: Air flow meter: Quantity of air above the maximum threshold.
Description of the diagnostics

Possibility 1
With engine speed at 2000 rpm and turbo air pressure at 2 bars, the fault appears if the air flow measured is greater than 1 300 mg/stroke for 2 s

Possibility 2
With engine speed at 3000 rpm and turbo air pressure at 2,5 bars, the fault appears if the air flow measured is greater than 1500 mg/stroke for 2 s

Conditions of activation of the diagnostics
The following conditions have to be met:
- Engine speed above 1500 rpm
- Battery voltage between 10 and 16 V
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Driving with engine hot for 5 minutes, with several accelerations at full load for 10 s followed by foot-offs
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Deactivation of the request for regeneration of the particle filter from the diagnostic tool
  • Deactivation of the EGR function
  • Cutting of the exhaust heat saver function
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle speed limiter (Need to switch the ignition off and then on, in order to make the function available again)
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle cruise control (Need to switch the ignition off and then on, in order to make the function available again)
Symptoms:
  • Engine hesitating, cutting out
  • Noise
  • Lack of power
  • Diesel fuel consumption a bit higher
  • Smoke from the exhaust
Suspect Areas:
  • atmospheric pressure sensor (Sensor drift; Connectors ; Electrical harness )
  • Turbocharging pressure sensor
  • Air flow meter
  • Air line between turbocharger and mixers
  • Pneumatic air mixer
  • Turbocharged air cooler
  • Turbocharger
  • Turbocharger electrovalve
  • Electrical harness
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

Sounds like a turbo issue Kenny 😕. I wonder have you a vacuum leak somewhere. Could be related to your bearing noise hopefully not.

I've replaced some of these pipes before the only one not replaced is the one going to the turbo. The reason access is terrible. But I do have a new replacement.

Likewise I have replaced 2 out of the three electrovalves which included the turbo EV. The middle one is difficult to reach.

If its the turbo or the wastegate what a pain that would be. The only way would be engine and gearbox out.Major project as you know Darren.

I'm just praying its the FNS wheel bearing being noisy. Had look today and no play in bearing. Also not tyre noise.

The noise increases and decreases with vehicle speed not engine speed.

Ah well then it's definitely not the turbo probably the driveshaft bearing if it's not the wheel. Just a thought did you bend the dust guard when you were doing the wheel bearing I nearly always bend them a little bit.it can sound like a bearing. Yes you don't want to be pulling the engine out believe me.

I took the dust shield off, so that's okay.
