Forced DPF regeneration on Citroën Jumper 2023

Unread post by bodudek »

Hi there

We've purchased a 2023 Citroën Jumper based camper in April. We're shipping it to South America and will travel there for 2-3 years. Diesel quality is rather poor in most countries over there, and we're aware of this. We've been back and forth between deleting AdBlue and DPF or not, and we've chosen to stick with the 'not'.

But as most workshops over there are not in 2023 yet, we'll feel much more safe, if we bring our own diagnostic computer. We want to be able to run guided diagnostics on the van, and also we are looking for the option to manually force DPF regeneration. We are NOT mechanics, but we want to be able to diagnose any fault and guide a local workshop in fixing it.

We've been looking at Launch X431 EURO TURBO and Autel MaxiSYS MS906 Pro-TS as well as Autel MX808, but sellers are claiming the units do NOT support manual DPF regeneration.

1) Which model year is a 2023 Citroën Jumper?
2) To which Diat Ducato does this correspond? (many diagnostic tools refer to Ducatos and not Jumpers)
3) Which diagnostic tool would be suitable for our needs?

Thanks a million!

I don't think the DPF will have anything to do with the diesel quality and there should be no reason to manually regenerate the DPF in any case. The system you have will depend on the engine you have - Ford or PSA engine as to what type of DPF system you have in any case. Some Ford engines inject diesel into the exhaust systems to burn off the soot, whilst PSA engines have an additive tank. Of course we don't condone any crippling of emissions systems here, so glad you have chosen not to do so as you will inevitably end up with problems, apart from it being illegal in Europe to do so.

The Citroen Jumper is called the Relay in the UK, but Jumper in Europe. There are many models and variations of these vehicles used commercially, so we may only be able to advise what engine you have from the VIN, but if it's not a badged Citroen / Peugeot vehicle I can't help you as the VIN will be different if it's a Fiat.

Regarding diagnostics that will depend on the actual vehicle brand you have as there will likely be systems on the vehicle that are better read by some diagnostic tools than others.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

Thanks a million, Marc :)

We'll be putting a diesel pre-filter on and possibly with heating as well to prevent waxing. We've heard of people travelling SA with Euro6 vans, and main issues are around the poor quality of diesel and also very different qualities of AdBlue. This renders issues around diesel pump as well as the entire AdBlue system. Our main concern is to be able to read out ECU errors to be able to tell local mechanics where to look. My question "Which diagnostic tool would be suitable for our needs?" is probably the most important.

While they have no links with the Forum, the diagnostics equipment sold by Easy Diagnostics is considered to be very good. It is not cheap, but it comes with 1 year aftercare service. They can also sell you a laptop that will run the system properly. The fact that they regularly sell out speaks volumes.
