Shreiking Volcane Clutch an update

Post by oilyspanner »

Hello all, in addition to worrying about the BX I have just got around to removing the clutch from SWMBOs Volcane, the driven plate was breaking up and shedding springs, some were in the bottom of the bellhousing, and one was rubbing against the pressure plate springs causing the shreik! the thrust race is also noisy, so all in all comprehensively knackered! surprisingly the expiring clutch was light and smooth in operation? back together in the morning, now for a glass of something to replace fluids[:D]

Update, took all day to replace gearbox! a few years ago I vowed to remove the complete drivepack when doing clutches on just about any XUD engined vehicle, how I wish I had stuck to it, the gearbox just did not want to go in, the diff fouled the crossmember, the bellhousing was magnetically attracted to the radiator! eventually it "fell in" though what I had been doing wrong for three hours I do not know.
