What's everyone driving these days

Just called in to see what is happening in here. Still going in my '01 Xsara. Mustn't be many of us left on the road at this stage. Just hit 215k. Engine still going strong, but the body is a different story.

Sills are continually a headache at MOT time and rear arches are bubbling rust too. Looks like the end is nigh for it if it needs major work. Rattle/knock in front of driver that has never been located.
So, what's everyone else driving these days. Have to say, the Citroen range these days is not attracting me so looks like it will be another marque for me this time.

508 is a possibility - what are they like?

I'm guessing that most of you are now running non-Citroen's as daily drivers now?

Quite right for me Dave. When my last C5 expired I needed a quick replacement and couldn't find a petrol C5 immediately so I bought the Subaru Legacy as a stop gap while still looking. Over 2 years later I am still looking but have found the Legacy to be a very good car for a variety of reasons and hence although my C5 searches are still active I am unlikely to change even if one does come up, unless it has all the bells and whistles and very low mileage!! My fun car is the MX3 which I take to shows etc and generally enjoy driving!

Overly complicated and fiddly - there's a few members here with 508 and multiple issues at present. But then later vehicles bring a whole new load of problem baggage with them - so swings and roundabouts.

I've gone electric with a Renault Zoe 2014, servicing for the last 20 months has been top up the screenwash and check the tyre pressures, two passed mots without fault.

I've narrowed my search down to an Audi A5 circa 2016/17 or a fresher 508. Got a budget of up to £15k, but obviously would like to spend a bit less as I only do about 5,000 miles per year. Not much else has taken my fancy. I did like the look of the Merc CLA, but I've been told they aren't as good as a c-class which I'm not fussed on.

Would these later versions be any better? I think this one would be before the issue with the chain. What diagnostic software do they run - have everyone else merged into a single system or is it bespoke per manufacturer? I'd need to sit in it, as I've read the i-cockpit is marmite for drivers depending on their height.

I'd avoid the Audi - money pits. The 508 has more or less what most PSA vehicles have now equipment wise and coming from a Xsara will take some time to get used to, but the 1.5 diesel is very nice. I have one but a little less power and it's very economical and nippy.

Depending on where you are, try and find a similar one near on a forecourt near you and take a test drive in it to get a feel. I can't stress this enough. Actually getting in adjusting the seats and driving position and then driving the car is really essential to see how you get on with the drive, handling comfort etc. Don't be rushed into anything and take your time trying out your shortlist.

Been looking for a whilenow and very little in terms of a manual 508 has come up for sale in my area. I missed the one above due to dithering. Should at least have went to see it.

Anyway, what are the auto boxes like in the 508? I'd probably have a preference for a manual, buteverything seems to be heading towards auto.

Is it the 1.5 engine you have? What vehicle? Are they good for mpg?

Sat in a 508 today for first time. Steering wheel and information cluster are odd layout. Rear view through window is very poor. Otherwise seems nice car, but everything should be a step up from the Xsara.

With them now being discontinued is that a reason to now avoid them?

Are the forum admins able to do a vehicle check for me based on a ref (I can provide a link to dealer advert) or is the vin always required just to see if there is anything of note about the car?

I have the DV5RD 75KW, which is more than enough for us. In the rural steep hills, country roads, no motorways or dual carriageways where I am, I get about 48.2, but this would increase significantly if you have straight roads covered with that stuff I think they call Tarmac - I remember seeing some years ago...

I can only advise what the vehicle build details are and equipment (pending membership upgrade renewal ) - I can't tell you anything about the servicing history maintenance history. You'll need an HPI check for things like outstanding finance of insurance category.

There's a Government Website you can check yourself for actual safety recalls, but I can check for outstanding after-sales campaigns, which can cover a multitude of issues from simple ECU updates, to replacement parts, timing replacement or other issues that have been identified as being needed to be done and these are all free of charge where outstanding.

After-sales campaigns are different to Recalls, which are generally safety-related.

My main car is a soda karoo 1.6td with the dog gearbox. It's a lovely car, comfortable and reliable. I can't see anything I would replace it with. I also own a mk4 golf gttdi 150 hp which is getting a bit of a restoration and should be on the road shortly, and supposed to be my fun car when my body let's me drive it. Also I have a citroen dispatch lwb and high roof and has the 2.0 HDI in it which is quite a rare combination. It's supposed to be getting converted into a mini camper for me. It replaces my relay camper which died when it tried off roading tricks and climbing a lamp post in the process. Ooooopps!
