DiagBox - Actuator Test
Hi,
May someone advise if in attached pic, if the fan should be activated or is the 'confirm to activate the test' button missing' as nothing happens ? Thank you.
{Setup: 508 (2016) 2.0 e-HDI Start/Stop {DiagBox 9.68 via VMWare). Using: Best Lexia 3 Diagbox V9.129 Full Chip 921815C Golden Edge Diagnostic Tool V7.83 PP2000 Lexia3 }

Press the PLAY button to start the test.

Re: DiagBox - Actuator Test
Thanks Marc (I think the 'hover over the play button' description just confused me or that's my excuse...)
Now next problem - test gives error in attachment
then when I repeat the test

Re: DiagBox - Actuator Test
If the test is failing then it may be because of a fault with the fan system which is perfectly logical.
It might be better to provide details of any faults, and provide the VIN and the actual fault codes.

Re: DiagBox - Actuator Test
I just wanted to make sure it was not a test interface problem, where the test could not be performed (as just purchased the DiagBox OBD interface & the car last week, so many variables...).
I do not have have any fault codes logged. Just felt on 3 hour drive the temp > 90 unusual (but again it was my first drive in car) or did any warnings come up in the dash (just trying to get ahead of them
I was not sure the Actuator test could identify any error just assumed it switched the actuator - so thanks for clarifying.
From 'googling' it seems the fan relay is a usual fault, so unless you advise any other test (?) I will change that first & revert.

Re: DiagBox - Actuator Test
Just ignore it, I don't know why you are concerned over that? 90° is not unusual.
To get fault codes, run a Global Diagnostic from the main interface.

Re: DiagBox - Actuator Test
Just a quick follow up on this - I removed the fan control relay (attached to radiator fan housing) & measured across the the ptc > 400 kilo ohms. I ordered a new one & will update here values.
When I reconnected the relay & started the car (2 days later) I got , as these were new errors & I had replaced the relay 'as is' I presume the BSI/ECU is always monitoring sensors ? If so, is it reasonable to assume then all wiring is good to the relay ?

Re: DiagBox - Actuator Test
In order to process the fault codes I'll need your VIN so I can see what the issue is. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

Re: DiagBox - Actuator Test
The VIN was in the first post screenshot. But I'm not wasting your time (yet) until I exhaust my own analysis (measure & swap out the relay). Thank you.

Re: DiagBox - Actuator Test
That's fine, ok so there is no further detail - both the codes:
P0692: Fan: Electrical fault on the control of the cooling fan 1
P0693: Fan: Electrical fault on the control of the cooling fan 2
Your 508 has a 140 Watt dual speed fan fitted, so it's the electrical control unit that knackered. The originals are about £99. Although there are cheaper versions - beware of going dirt cheap as some are notoriously bad.

Re: DiagBox - Actuator Test
May I say in defense I had the unit ordered before your 'dirt cheap' advice - (Amazon "RIDEX 4145R0007 Primary, Electric Motor Radiator Fan" € 16. Measured across the ptc =0 ohms (old unit above 400 kohms).
Started car, engine service light & engine fault alarm (previously no dash alarms). DiagBox gave new error P049394 - Not defined (Google hints at slow speed not working on fan...) Tried clearing fault codes - seemed to work but did not clear.
Reverted back to old unit & fault code & all dash errors gone.
Also tried again to clear fault codes (thinking an active fault code prohibited the process) - but not working.
Then tried (to eliminate diagBox) cleared BSI & Parking assist ECU old fault codes. They both cleared no problem.
So clearly my new fan relay is a problem & why can't I clear this this ECU fault codes. Do you know what value the ptc should be (hard to believe a new unit defective out of box...).

Re: DiagBox - Actuator Test
It's very common - we see a lot of crappy parts that don't work here, which is why we always suggest a decent branded one and avoid ECP at all costs.
Simply put, you can't erase a fault code if the fault is still there - end of. It will just keep being triggered until the underlying cause is rectified.

Re: DiagBox - Actuator Test
OK lesson learned. Today got the genuine PSA (Omron) relay, measured 1 ohm (approx) across the PTC (OLD 400k & Ridex 0 Ohm) fitted to car & no visible dash alarms (as their were with Ridex). Went through process of clearing alarms without error but not cleared. Repeated both Hi/Lo Actuator tests and same screen as above 'Actuation done, a problem occurred during the operation'.
What we know so far -
ECU can detect relay as it knows difference between Ridex (dash alarm) & PSA relay (no dash alarm).
Original PSA relay PTC 400 k & new PSA PTC 1 ohm.
Where to go next to eliminate easiest obstacle ?

Re: DiagBox - Actuator Test
I can also verify that the radiator fan switches on immediately after air-con on & off as air-con off (I should have verified earlier).
