C5 hydraulic pump

Unread post by Amarra »

Hello,
I have got a question about pumps.
My C5(2010 V6 HDi) has faulty pump and I would like to buy a replacement.
9654068680 is the OEM number that I am searching for.
I have found a few but the manufacturing date is different.
Can I use an older one?

As there are differences in power connectors, possibly not (unless the stock code (which usually begins 96) is the same). However, if you are prepared to put in the effort it is possible to clean up the pump motor and get it working again.

The motor has 4 graphite brushes. Over time these will generate carbon dust. This would not be a problem apart from the LDS fluid that gets into the motor (from spillages or leaks). This forms a conductive sludge that will slowly draw more current (which may cause the motor to cut out for temperature reasons), until eventually the 40A maxi fuse will blow. If you take the BHi assembly off the car you can strip the motor, and then (using brake cleaning fluid, a toothbrush, and an abrasive rubber) clean the sludge out and clean up the commutator. I had to do this on my 07 reg C5, and the suspension is working properly again.

You need to focus on the part number, not the manufacturing date. Also be aware that if you are buying new or second hand that they ECU configuration will need to be checked and possibly reconfigured using Diagbox, unless you have retained the ECU from your existing unit and intend to re-use it.

I would be inclined to clean up the motor of the old one (and, depending on the supplier, possibly the replacement one) so that you have a spare, should you (or a friend with a similar C5) require it.
