ZX Towbar?

Post by BLarwood »

Hello all,
I wonder if anyone could give me some insight into fitting a towbar to my ZX Aura. Basically what need to be done, what makes are best and electrics?
Never fitted a tow bar before, and I wouldnt like to lose the trailer along the motorway :)
The car is a 92 Aura D. Thanks for any help!
Ben

Hi Ben - Contact Towsure in Sheffield (they have a web site)and they do mail order. The kit comes complete with full instructions and if you have a reasonable amount of DIY ability and a pair of ramps, you shouldn't have trouble fitting. They do a 12volt electric kit as well. Since you are fitting to a 1992 model you won't run foul of the latest EU regulations.

Hi John,
thanks for the reply, do you happen to know if the electrics will just plug into a connector hidden somewhere, or will I have to cut into wires to fit them?
Thanks
Ben

Hi Ben - It may well be that Citroen will have a plug-in connection at huge expense, however when I did my BX and Xantia, I just connected to each terminal wire with piggy-back connectors.

Be careful to ensure that all rubber grommets that carry wiring from outside the passenger /boot compartment are secured back in place and properly sealed (I used silicone sealant). Otherwise you will get exhaust fumes entering the car.
