Ds5 dash fuse box is this normal?

Unread post by dynasticpluto »

Good afternoon, the fuse for the front 12v plug blew so I went to change it and I found the wiring like this infront of the fuse box. Is this normal or has someone had the dash off before I bought the car?

Put it this way - that's not unusual!

There's so little room that this is how it is. That main unit is the BSI - very expensive, so be very careful. It will have some fuse arrays incorporated into it and several other smaller fuse board surrounding it. Just be very careful not to disturb or pull anything to rigorously or you may find you suddenly start getting errors!

It's made worse for us because of the conversion from LHD to RHD. But don't go thinking that LHD cars are peachy easy. That's far from the case.

Yep I just opened mine half an hour ago and was shocked at the chaotic mess in there ... so difficult to access fuses behind that rat nest

Yep, it's a right old mess as standard.

Be extremely careful - I honestly thought I'd broken mine when I shoved a piggyback fuse holder into place and accidentally contacted a neighbouring unused socket. It refused to start after and was doing all sorts of weird stuff. Thankfully GiveMeABreak guided me to the BSI reset procedure and I was hugely relieved to find out it I hadn't wrecked its brain. Then I became a forum Donor, very grateful for all the help on this forum.

If you want to even replace a fuse then disconnect the battery and wait a while before going anywhere near it.

Well that's a relief, I thought its been in an accident and someone has bodged it back together😂.
I tried reaching the fuse but didn't want to disturb it too much so just left it and will use the 12v socket in the back.

Thanks for all the info!!
