2.0 Blue Hdi Momentary complete power loss.

Unread post by onthecut »

I have a late 2014 2.0 Blue HDi Picasso, recently acquired in which I have now done about 3k miles (total miles 62k). Twice now, separated by several weeks I have had the following event. Pull out to overtake, travelling at 55 / 60 mph in 5th or 6th (normal manual gearbox), only to experience a complete loss of power. Come off the throttle, pull back in -- back to normal. Later overtaking manoeuvre, drop a cog and off like a scalded cat.

One small clue perhaps ---- I habitually turn off the stop / start system. After the power loss event, it has reappeared as 'on', meaning to my mind that at least some part of the system considers itself to have been turned off.

I say some part, as the auto wiper function which happened to be on on both occasions remained on. As far as I am aware this function is cancelled when the car is ordinarily turned off at the button, so my event is not a complete power outage.

It has a new, correct battery; there are no known glitches in the charging suystem and all the earthing points around the battery are spotless.

Here's hoping someone has been here before and knows exactly which connector is duff ! :-) Any thoughts most welcome.

Stop Start generally re-enables itself after the ignition is switched off, but in any case, this will have zero effect on the power loss.

You have something else going on and it needs a proper diagnostic to find out what the fault codes are then pop those up with the VIN. The faults will be stored in the fault log, so can be retrieved to see what was happening at the time.

Thank you for your reply Marc.

I will get it plugged in and se what comes up. My thinking on the stop / start is not that it was the stop start that caused the issue, but the fact it reappeared as 'on' suggests the relevant control unit(s) had noted an engine stop situation.

Yes, that would make perfect sense as it is designed to work that way.
