gearbox oil level plug (2208.48)

Unread post by myfirstpicasso »

I just discovered that the gearbox oil level plug (2208.48) is rounded off and I will need to replace it.

Does anybody know what are the specifications of this screw ? is it M8x1 fine thread ?

You have the part number, just order one in from the dealer for the sake of £1.44!

A search on that part number suggests a new one is about £1, so I would get the correct one from a Citroen dealer. The Citroens we have owned did not have gear box oil level plugs, only a drain plug and to get the level right you drain out the oil and then fill with the correct amount through a vent on top.

This is for an AM6 automatic, so has a proper drain and refilling procedure.

..... And I was stuck once, couldn't get a Citroën one for a few days, so had a bright idea, the same gearbox was fitted to vauxhalls......... I have two spare vauxhall gearbox level plugs....... 'cos they don't fit the Citroën Gearbox! 😒

I ordered one from ebay and today I also visited the dealer and they ordered one for me . I will pick it up in the next days.

Maybe I will compare the two parts. But I guess it's always better to get your parts from the dealer.

It's always better for the dealer, not you. Also if it's rounded off, how are you getting it out?

With a bolt extractor. I just hope it is not Aluminium.
I would first try it on the car . If not , I would try to take the drain plug out and then try to remove the level plug.
In worst case I would replace the drain plug also.
