I've not long finished fitting rilled and grooved discs, mintex pads and the previous black caliper paint (black car) sanded back, and recoated to "refresh" the finish to out Citroen C5:

Very nice - shame the only way to keep brakes looking like that is to not use them!
I had rotors just like that (drilled and slotted) on my Xantia Turbo CT 15 years ago, but I didn't like them very much - the whirring noise when I pressed the brake pedal was irritating
, and I didn't live in a high rainfall area, so got little benefit.
Was I aware then that there was a right and a wrong way to fit them? Can't remember...

If still to use the car after fitting both front and rear new discs at the same time, take care braking for a few miles until they have bedded in. I once did front and rear at the same time and the car barely stopped at first.

I considered looking at ventilated Brembo discs for my Aircross after looking at the state of the Citroen discs last year - what a sight - full of deep grooves and pitted to Hell - but opinions seemed to suggest they mince your pads up more quickly. As I only have a 1.5 L now I stuck with the non ventilated Brembo discs and pads all round and these are simply great. Also had the rear guards fitted which have eliminated the sticking when initially pulling away in the morning.
And I have to add that we're all on notice here in the wilds of mass 20 MPH limits coming in place of the 30s and doing away with the de-restricted 60 roads everywhere in favour of 30 or 20! Thanks to the loonies in the Senedd who seem to think it's all good for the environment. Has anyone told these idiots that trying to keep a modern car at 20MPH in second gear almost doubles the engine output and therefore the emissions? No, I didn't think so. Watch out it'll be coming your way soon no doubt. Anyone been overtaken by a bicycle lately?

WAIT! WHAT??? Is this a national thing or a Welsh thing? I'll emigrate rather than be subjected to those speeds...GiveMeABreak wrote: 23 Jul 2023, 14:34 And I have to add that we're all on notice here in the wilds of mass 20 MPH limits coming in place of the 30s and doing away with the de-restricted 60 roads everywhere in favour of 30 or 20! Oxfordshire County Council seem to have a thing for 20MPH. The number of 20MPH zones appears to be growing exponentially.

London is mainly 20mph, it's so annoying getting under taken by cyclists

It simply can't be policed here - single file country lanes, a house every 50 metres if you're lucky, never seen a copper yet - they're all sat feet up in a speed van having coffee and sandwiches earning overtime.

EVO's road tests will make for a much less entertaining read of they're always doing 20\30mph
