I got a message last night telling me to check the Dipped Beam lights, the sat nav is directing me to the nearest dealer. If I restart it comes on a dull weird orange for a few seconds, then goes off when the message appears.
The manual says it's a dealer-only job due to high voltages. I promise to be careful, obviously the ignition will be off and I'll wait for the lights to go off.
I've attached a photo of the existing HID bulb, which I understand from googling the numbers is a D1S...
These Philips ones came with the car (used), they seem pretty good but I'm looking at the Osram D1S Nightbreaker, I've seen they're recommended here and I've always been happy with their conventional bulbs.
My question is... Is this the dipped bulb, and is there a separate high beam bulb or does this bulb do both jobs? I can hear a little "zup" noise when I select full beam, so I'm wondering if it just moves the optics to give full beam? Or is the D1S a dual bulb, or is there another bulb for full beam?
DS5 HID/LED Dipped/Full Beam bulbs?

Re: DS5 HID/LED Dipped/Full Beam bulbs?
You have discharge lights (Xenons) plus LED Bulbs.
As far as the Xenons are concerned they act as both main and dipped beam, by use of a shutter controlled by the system that blocks out some of the light on dipped setting.
Regardless of ignition on, be careful as there can be residual current in the units. They operate at about 25000 volts when starting up....
If replacing the bulbs, always do them in pairs.
I had the Osram Ultra Xenarc Nightbreakers and they were excellent bulbs.

Re: DS5 HID/LED Dipped/Full Beam bulbs?
Thanks, good to know about the risk of stored charge. It will be parked for a couple of days before I fit anyway, so all should be dead.
That makes sense re the shutters, seems pretty crude but I suppose it works. That explains why the dipped beam cut-off is so sharp then. Bet that flap gets pretty warm.
I've just ordered these...

Seems like a reasonable price, even got 3% Quidco cashback!
I'll check them for fakery on Osram's website when they arrive, assume they'll be OK from GSF though.

Re: DS5 HID/LED Dipped/Full Beam bulbs?
All fitted, and working brilliantly (literally!).
I did the fake check with Osram on the bulbs from GSF, they were absolutely fine as expected.
I was surprised at the amount of force needed to unplug the metal connector plug, I did check online to find out if there's a latch but it is just friction and brute force. Also the same with turning the bulbs to lock them back into the headlight - again, it took a worrying amount of shove, all while remembering that the headlights are over a grand each.
Thank you for the help, hopefully someone else might find this info useful in future.
