Replacing the radio/satnav on the C5X model to android version

Post by Lynnzer »

Just wishing I had the android version of my radio/satnav.
Is there any reasonable alternative or is it just way too much to do.
The old Mway just doesn't cut it now when compared to android.

Considering MyWay was in production vehicles 15 years ago, and was in development years before that, it's not surprising to be honest. Android Auto was only released in 2015.

If you want to replace it for an RT6 (make sure you have a compatible hardware unit), it will involve replacing the screen also as RT6 requires the Hi Res display, plus telecoding.

If it's just Bluetooth audio you want consider something like this for £15 - does bluetooth streaming, calls and plays music from USB....

I think android seems to be the way for me. I hate the old unit. I did see a newer satnav/radio in a C5X7 that was owned by a Citroen Garage director. It was digital and looked a lot like what I'm after. He says it was one of the last production runs of the C5 before they closed the line down.
Would that have been the RT6 version?
My VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] if there's a way to check on version of the one I have. I think it's the E-Mway but can't be sure

Also, I had an older model of the same car probably a 2012 model that had a music player facility that stored loads of cd's or whatever on disc and could be played back by voice actuation. Is that available too or not?

You already have the RT6 fitted.

What you other chap likely has is the system that was fitted to the last production run - the SMEG 7" Touchscreen. That is not a simple swap. Many of the fascia controls have been moved for this model requiring new switch plugs, fascia, panels etc.

Your RT6 can already stream bluetooth music from a phone and can already play MP3 music files from an attached USB stick - so no need for CDs any more, but it can still play an MP3 CD which is a bit old tech now. So you can rip your CDs to MP3 on your PC and put them on a USB memory stick along with your playlist file.
