After market stereo suddenly not working

Post by VanDan »

Hi there. I’m not sure if this has been spoken of on here before. About 6 months ago I swapped out the standard stereo in my 2010 c4 grand Picasso for an aftermarket one for Bluetooth streaming. I’m not at all fussed about the steering wheel controls etc just wanted some music. It’s worked fine up until now. Original radio still works, fuses are all fine, I’ve swapped out the wiring harness for a brand new one thinking that may be the solution. I’ve read many stuff online about grounding the earth better but find that hard to believe considering it’s worked for so long. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks I’m advance

You haven't mentioned what aftermarket equipment you have installed and what the problem is.

But generally speaking, we only support the original systems here to be honest - any aftermarket units can cause issues without the correct CAN interface as the Head Unit generally interfaces with the vehicle systems to a greater or lesser degree depending on what you had originally fitted at factory. I think you need to go back to the manufacturer's site of the aftermarket unit and check there for problems and solutions possibly.

Thanks for the reply! It’s just a JVC stereo but unsure on the exact model. Is there another way of having Bluetooth streaming with the original radio? With out costing big money. Thanks again

There are several options to consider.

Leave the original head unit in place and get a gizmo for bluetooth streaming. There are several options you might want to look at, here's one example for £15 that might be worth a punt - seems you can stream music via phone or USB stick and supports hands free calling.

A bluetooth transmitter that plugs into the 12V socket and uses a radio frequency to play through the vehicle's speakers:

I used one of these in my old C5 (mk1). Great bit of kit does the job perfectly. If I remember right though, for best results you need to use the lower fm bands as they are not so busy. 87/88mhz.
There are also stand alone sat navs now that have the same feature and will hold your music library.

Cheers guys! I’ve had one of these radio transmitters before I swapped the stereo out but my 12v port is a bit shoddy from the kids sticking 1p coins in them. I’ll buy another and clean out the ports. Thanks again

You can replace the 12V socket easily enough. Citroen sell these separately, so easy to sort, then all you have to do is sell the kids :-D
